Re: Barca Velha 1999 - Bargain or not?

You are not alone. The 1999 is a good wine but is not what you expect from a Barca Velha. Compared to the vintage you mentioned and older ones and the new 2000 it fails. And now a question. I have heard that the Barca Velha 2000 proably will be the last Barca Velha because the vineyards are sold and...

Re: How many bottles of Port do you own today?

Yes, .... I will do my best to taste it all during the next 60 years (I intend to set a new record as t...

Re: Garrafeira 1790 or ?

Today I got this mail from Departamento Técnico <deptecn@realcompanhiavelha.pt> Dear Miss Soren Bodker, Yes it is a Port Wine. It is really from the harvest 1790. It should have been bottled after seven year's. The Company "Real Companhia Vinícola do Norte de Portugal" - Real Companhia Vel...

Garrafeira 1790 or ?

I have got a challenge. I have been asked to buy a collection of port. It is from a estate of a deceased person. I know the heirs and I knew of the grandfathers collection. It is not a big collection but there should be some good experiences among the 12 bottles, eg. Nieport Colheita 1912, some 1924...

Re: A tough Port question

As Andy Velebil mentioned earlier "Thats a large amount and the US is the 4th largest consumer of Colheita's, behind Holland, Denmark , and Canada (The US is tied with Portugal in 4th place)." So I am just sitting hear on top of all the Colheita's enjoying the discussion. :lick: :dru...

What is this ?

I have just got this bottle but I am a Port Lover and don't know much about Madeira so this must be the place to get some help. Can anybody tell me something about this bottle that I have bought here in Denmark. It was delivered to a danish wine shop in 1966 and folloved by a letter to the wine shop...

Re: Your personal top 10

It is not so easy but I will try. - Feist Old Reserve Vintage 1878 - the closest I will ever come to heaven still being alive. - Noval Nacional 1997 - everything you can expect from a VP + extra power - Taylor Vargellas Vinha Velha 1997 - so hard to get so nice to drink - only one bottle left :wall:...

Re: The Beginner's Guide to Writing a TN

I am not an expert - just a dane that loves port. In the beginning I used a 5 star scale. Almost every port got 4 or 5 stars. Then I went on to 6 stars with the possibility to add - or +. Still I missed something. I thought it was difficult to make this overall rating and every time I wanted to get ...

Re: What are the 3 best Ports you've had in 2008

Andy wrote Feist Old Port Reserve 1878 Sounds very cool. Do you know if this was a Colheita (tawny). I ask because many of the older bottles used "Reserve" to denote a wood aged Port. After enjoying the bottle I wrote Roy H. to hear if he could tell something about this bottle. He could bu...

Re: What are the 3 best Ports you've had in 2008

In 2007 me and my wife and two friends (they didn't bring their wifes) were in Potugal with only one purpose - PORT. After this journey we agreed to meet (with wifes) 3 times every year to enjoy a lovely dinner and taste some Potugise Wine and of cause Port. It has become a rough competition - but i...

Re: 1970 Robertson’s Rebello Valente Vintage Port

Really nice to hear som positive comments on this rather seldom seen Port. I have just bought a set of 1960, 63, 66, 70 and 75 from this producer because I have had some surprisingly good experiences with Rebello Valente. I can't explain why but I have the same experience about decanting the bottles...
