In the UK there are 2 main problems: 1. variety 2. price If everyone had a chance to come to Portugal and start on the port here then I think more people would drink it. I can buy a basic (don't know what the word is) Bellman's ruby, which tastes fantastic, for only 3.25 euros. In the UK I would not...

It will be very tricky, I am hopefully going to the Minho area in September with a quick stop off to try some port in the Douro so I am not sure if I can go up again so soon.

Would like to though!

Where to start?

Hello all I don't have much money spare for port drinking although it is something I enjoy doing. Port here is so cheap that I can afford to buy some. However I have yet to try a Vintage Port (because they are not cheap), therefore as a complete beginner what would you recommend so that a. I can tas...

One thing I can say - please don't generalise too much. Not all women (50% of the population - at least) are the same.

I have no idea if and why women do not drink port as much as men. I don't know many men or women who drink it but that is mainly due to lack of exposure and high prices (especially in the UK). I have started to get into port due to the low cost of the drink here and because as a whole I like to try ...

Hello

Portuguese vinho verde is lovely and reasonably priced over here. The range of Portuguese wine really is astonishing and I think you do have to come here to see it all as I don't think they export all that much. It is definitely worth trying some of the different varieties.

Thanks

Hi again

If I'm not going to know until 2009, how can I get a bottle as a gift now? Sorry for the dumb questions, I really am a beginner at port.

Thanks

The baby has just arrived!! How do I go about finding the right bottle, I mean, would any vintage port be suitable, i.e. that I can find in my supermarket?

Thanks

Hello It's been a long since I went but we had a day trip to the NW of the island which was fantastic, it also included a levada walk, which is definitely worth it. Otherwise, maybe a trip to Porto Santo? I didn't go but it is supposed to be lovely and has sandy beaches (unlike Madeira). Thanks Sarah

Beginner & Newborn gifts

Hi all This is my first post here, so hello to everyone. I have recently started to 'get into' port after moving to Portugal but have yet to try anything expensive (due to budget) although here even the cheapest port is delicious. I have recently found some reference to purchasing a bottle of port a...
