Sandeman 40 year

Hello everyone, I am new to the port world and I recently received a bottle of the Sandeman 40 year as a gift.

Problem is... that the bottle date is 1999!

After I have been reading your TN, finally I decided to open the 40Y. You said almost everything, but I just like to add: WOOOWWWWWW!!! I am a little bit more optimistic and if I gave 98p to the 30Y I have to give 99p to this one... I just don't give 100p because still lots of Ports to taste :)

Dear Roy: nice, interesting but very difficult question!!! It was tuff to choose between "building a port collection" and" it has become a serious area of appreciation in my life", but in the end I voted for the 1st one. After building a good collection is time to start to drink ...

According to IVDP, 27, 47 and 77 were declared VINTAGE Years http://www.ivdp.pt/pagina.asp?codPag=98 ... 2&idioma=0 (sorry but they just have in portuguese).

Thanks Todd!!! I really hope that IVDP declare 2007 as a VINTAGE year... it would be really funny, because my grandfather is from 1927, my father from 1947 and I am from 1977, all of them VINTAGE Years. The tradition says it will be...

Thanks Andy!!! Nice to hear that you have tried this Port and you confirm the quality of it. I feel sorry that I cannot find it in Sweden. I have the 40 Years from the same producer left for Christmas and as you can imagine I cannot wait to pumpin' up the cork. :)

30 Year Old Tawny Port by S. Leonardo -- (Quinta do Mourão)

Like I promise on my 1st TN, I opened a Port (30 Years) to celebrate the birth of my boy that came to our world last week. Here it is the TN, especially for Todd Pettinger... Cheers Todd!!! Bottled in 2006, this 30 Years Old Tawny has golden orange colour with notes of honey, dry fruits (nuts, almon...

CaipiPort???

Hi everyone,

Here comes my Port drink suggestion: CaipiPort!!! It’s a normal caipirinha, but instead of using cachaça I used White Port (and I reduced the sugar) or Extra Dry Port. It might sound crazy... but it tastes really good!!! :)

Bill, thanks for your post. I like it and due to the good tannins I am looking forward to try it in a few years, I expect a good evolution. If you would like to try a young VP I recommend you Quinta de Baldias 2003... it's a wine that is so good as young that I don't feel to wait with it. Andy, actu...

2000 S. Leonardo Vintage Port -- (Quinta do Mourão)

Hi, I am still a beginner is this matter and this will be my 1st TN in this forum. For that and because the 1st time it's always special and in Sweden I cannot afford to buy VP so often, I decide to taste the Port that we were drinking while we were eating the cake in my wedding, a fabulous S. Leona...

Roy,

I agree with you totally!!! IVDP can and should do better... but that's another story.
If just 15% American residents have tried wine, means that 85% don't know what they are losing.
Meanwhile, let us continue talk about Port and especially let's drink it :)
Cheers!!! :winepour:

Dear Roy, I agree with in 2 things: in your rhetorical question and that we don’t want that the Douro Valley turns the next Algarve!!! Answers for your rhetorical question I also have, but let’s not talk about them now :) The 250 years celebration of the oldest wine region in the world has to be pro...

I just start my collection and I just have Real Companhia Velha VP1983, S.Leonardo VP2000, Burmester VP2003 and Quinta de Baldias VP2003.
Has anyone tried the Real Companhia Velha 1983 and can give me some feedback? The others I have alreday tried...

Promoting Port is the key. And I mean promoting Port OUT of Portugal... Douro is considering the oldest wine region in the world since 1756, and who knows about that? Douro Valley celebrate 250 years old last year, why the IVDP just decide to celebrate in Portugal? I agree with what 2 expert journal...

Well, to be honest I tried Port when I was around 6 years old (just in the lips). I know that it was sweet :) after that I waited until I was 18... and it worth!!!
