1952 Kopke Colheita Port

They day started off pretty crappy in that I spilled my coffee my coffee all over the floor as soon as I opened the shop floor. Then I got a call from a rep telling me she had some stuff for me to try. It was the 1952 and 4 other Kopke Colheita's. The color was pretty light in that it had a orange h...

Madeira Offer

So now that I have my wine shop up and running in Bothell Wa, I have decided that here in the rainy city we need to have a place where port/madeira nerds can go. Here is the latest offer for Madeira that should arrive next monday or so. I've been trying to keep the price down a little being that the...

Re: Seattle Wine Co (Bellevue, WA) - S/W 2003 VP - $27.95

Are they going out of business? I mean a lot of these wines are below wholesale prices. A LOT more below. Hell, I'd by from him since he has them less then what I can get them for through proper channels.

Re: 2009 Taylor, Fonseca, Croft VP's

I just called TCWC and they do not know if it will be 750ml in 12 bottle owc or a 6 bottle owc. Same for the 375ml. He said they would not find out until they arrive in 2012.

I'm guessing that the Bin Laden thing might have had something to do with it. My friend is getting hosed. Better him than me.

Re: Retail in Seattle area?

Roy, Def some Douro wines and Madeira's. Might not be the anything from the late 18th century but would like to have at least one from the late 19th. I know that most will not buy it but for that one person who is looking for something that his buddy has never tried or just wants something special i...

Re: Retail in Seattle area?

Overall I'm trying to get an idea of what ports one should bring in if they were to open a shop in the area. I know that most people do not drink port like most of us do but also would never want to leave the port drinkers out. Trying to get an idea of which ports to bring in for the public knowing ...

Re: 1980 Noval Nacional up for auction

Eric, It will depend if the port is in holding in the US or in HC. If HC then you might be paying more than its worth is shipping and taxes. Then there is the exchange rate that seems to kill us in the US. When I lived in Rome last year I was buying from london and the pound was almost the same to t...

Re: Retail in Seattle area?

Thanks guys. I'm kinda a big fan of World of wines since Kathy and I used to work together and I know Allen pretty well. Just trying to figure out who has the best selection in town for our juice. I know most do not have over VP or VM cause of the price. FWC does seem to be a bit more pricey but if ...

Retail in Seattle area?

Have not been on in a bit but wanted to ask a question to the local Seattle people. If a wine shop on the east side of Lake Washington had a pretty decent selection of Ports and Madeira would you visit and buy or just cruise and pass? Prices would be set a good as they could be since the three-tier ...

1994 Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port

1994 taylor VP 1/2 bottle: Tight at first but came around and opened up like a beautiful rose. Still big and bold with full tannins and high acidity but lots of rich black fruit. Very thick on the palate with lots of chewy reddish raisins. This tasting note is one of several related tasting notes. C...

1994 Graham's Vintage Port

1994 Graham's VP full bottle: WOW, sweet and soft. I would say that it was almost ready to rock and roll. This was the wine that blew everyone away. Sweet black fruit with great acidity and loads of tannins but in a silky way! The port was in my own words, "Slicker than snot on a brass doorknob...

Re: Port Tasting in Redmond, Washington this weekend

I know Ed no longer owns the place but I think Karl is managing things for the owners. I was in town a few weeks ago and stopped by to see how my old stomping grounds was looking. I hope things are doing better for them. The selection of Rocha/kopke was not what it used to be when I was working ther...

Re: Zachy's Auction - Nov 6-8

I was watching the Zachy's auction it seemed that the prices fetched were decent. Unlike a few months back when prices were just stupid and it was cheaper to buy retail than auction. I also looked at the Morrell upcoming auction but they don't seem to have much and on the ports they do have they hav...

Heather, Im an auction specialist at a wine auction house, this is to say that I spend a lot of my day tracking wine prices like they are the stock market and assessing wines for our upcoming sales. Like the others have said look for a few things: buyers premium that will range from 17% to 21%. This...

Jon, All the ports were within estimate or higher. We did see an increase in % on all the ports but that is normal for the November and February sales. I assume that some of the % is because the rest of the wine market is going so whacky also. Lots of out of country buyers are buying wine/ports from...

It may look like a give away but I would bet that it will hammer down around $70-100 per bottle an with a 20% buyers premium your looking at about $85 per bottle. Not much of a deal on that one.
