Re: Question about aging Colheita
So..... in other words my last bottles of 1934 Niepoort Colheita, bought at auction a dozen years ago and which were amazing then, are now likely toast? (No idea when bottled.). So sad. This is the one problem with moving to Massachusetts 7 years ago. My wine is still stuck in California and I only ...

Re: February trip to Lisbon
There are many good options in Baixa..... follow the business people and workers. Unfortunately, I can picture where I was, but no names. But the general area should suffice and it's right down the hill from where you are staying. There will be options in Alfama too, but without a solid recommendati...

Re: Calling all New Englanders (but hello again everyone else!)
Peter: Wired West is the most recent local initiative, commenced by a group of tech savvy people in the environs. It's been slow but happening gradually. There was even a mention in the paper about how this was first raised 15 years ago by Mass Broadband (I think that's the name), and what a joke it...

Calling all New Englanders (but hello again everyone else!)
I am sooooo excited to be able to re-connect with FTLOPers. It's been a long, isolated year-plus while waiting to be internet-connected, something I (as a former Los Angeles person) took totally for granted when I moved out here to the Pioneer Valley in Western Mass. With everything that goes on aro...

Re: Always a great visit in Madeira
So interesting...... is it from the grandfather? I wonder if they have more. Must be quite a task to trace for them.
Congratulations. I love these guys and I am particularly fond of the extremely old (yet undocumented) wines but they are hard to come by these past 3 years or so.

Re: Need New Movie + Video Suggestions
Sorry this reply has to be the first posting I've made in something like 5-6 months (!!), if anyone is a fan of really campy/cheesy horror, there is simply NOTHING that beats Mega Piranha, a Syfy Channel production featuring Barry Williams (Greg Brady to the rest of us) as Secy of Defense, and Tiffa...

Re: “Madeira floods and mudslides kill 25”
I found an interesting site http://www.madeirahelp.com , which includes intermittent updates each day, including the following notable observations not typically mentioned in news reports: Madeira Update 2100Z 23FEB2010 - Death toll 42, Local government president lowered the number to 37 on TV. Gove...

I finally heard back from Faja dos Padres... Patricia reports they had a little trouble but nothing serious and all is okay, thankfully, on their bit of the south coast.

Disaster In Madeira!!!!
In case no one is browsing the Madeira forum..... another of our members posted a briefing on a violent storm on the island of Madeira. Another report I saw on Yahoo said 32 were dead and 60+ seriously injured, road blocked with huge rocks. Trying to get more information but I thought that with so m...

Re: “Madeira floods and mudslides kill 25”
I just saw this on the yahoo headlines page saw Portuguese Island and was astounded. I logged on to see if anyone here had further info. Anything we can do to help? Maybe we should all put some effort in to collectively send anything over.
This is awful.

Yes, yes, yes, I know  After being absent from home 3 weeks (and then immediately getting up at 4am 2x for this wonderful even) I had jet lag to get over, work to get caught up on and house to get back in order...... I'll be tardy but I'll get something up, I promise. But I can immediately con...

Questionable experts at auction houses?
Someone sent me a link to a blog about a phony Sex Pistols art poster that is/was part of an upcoming auction at Christie's in NY. A number of people had posted comments, about how easy it was for anyone to recognize it as a fraud (among the reasons, that clubs never printed the years on flyers back...

This is indeed very interesting and I am curious too about Cristiano and Sandra's involvement as well as what they will do in the future. What does this mean for them? Just the Quinta do Vale d. Maria?

Re: French wine exports in serious decline
Let's not forget that California is selling off its stock at discounts (anybody see the flyer from Mannie this week for 50% off what are presumably cult wines?). And I've always been of the opinion that CA wine has been far more overvalued than the French ever were. It's been ages since I had an Ita...

Genre: Drama Title: The Sisters Comment: Maria Bello, Rip Torn, Tony Goldwyn, Erika Christensen, Mary Stuart Masterson, Elizabeth Banks... based on a similarly titled Chekhov play... this has some really biting dialog, all the way through. Lots of interfamily drama but fun in a really dark way and a...
