Re: David Guimaraens - December's Forum Guest Corner Host

If I may make yet another comment, David (which requires no reply, actually), I'm amazed that people like yourself can take extremely young examples of many, many wines during a work session and make some sense of their style and quality, and fit that information into the rest of the data that has b...

Re: David Guimaraens - December's Forum Guest Corner Host

I believe your 1985's were clearly in the 2nd stage when you first opened them, and they are now in their 3rd stage. I would have no problems with holding on to your 1985's for longer. David Dear David, Thanks for the time for your thorough answer. I could see how the aguardiente quality could have...

Re: Anybody know where I can buy....

IT looks like the UK is really the place to go for the antique stuff. Thanks again to those who responded. I've spent many delightful hours browsing various sites myself, and also looking at all that's been suggested to me.

Re: Anybody know where I can buy....

Thanks to all for all the information. I should have made it clear that what is beomg sought is a sterling silver port funnel, not a silver-plated or silver-filled funnel, and yes, I'm sure it's going to be expensive, as many of you indicated. It's for a Christmas present for a well-to-do recipient ...

Re: David Guimaraens - December's Forum Guest Corner Host

Dear David, A tasting and cellaring question for a wine with which you may have some familiarity, and a challenge for your prognosticating powers. Perhaps the Port in my cellar that is most difficult to judge is the 1985 Taylor, of which I bought a case on release. It has always been a very fine win...

A Justino Henriques 1860 Bual for US$180 at a local wine store two years ago.

Re: Fonseca 1970 (Army & Navy)

I agree that due diligence for 1970s and previous would involve a query about where the wine was bottled. However, for sources of such reputation as Rhys, giving bottler if outside Oporto is really de rigeur . Given this, is it possible that a shipping error got the wrong case to you? That's the mos...

Was this sourced from Rare Wine Company? I have a pair of these on order for a friend.

Anybody know where I can buy....

Anybody know where I can buy....a sterling silver port funnel, classic design, filter, crook in neck, probably a stand for it? Doesn't need to be especially antiquesy, but may be. Looking for a Christmas present,

Leacock Verdelho Silver Jubilee Madeira 1952--TNS?

I need some quick information on the Leacock Verdelho Silver Jubilee Madeira 1952. I seem to remember seeing a complimentary note about it somewhere, but can't find it. Is this the same wine when Silver Jubilee is not on the note? Were there two bottlings that year of verdelho? Thanks for anyone who...

Re: 1955 Mackenzie VP?

Thanks, Derek. I'll pursue it if possible.

I'm enamored of the few 55s I've tasted, especially a beautiful bottle of Martinez about 10 years ago.

My information is that a 'viticulturalist' is a vine-grower. Does this individual actually tend vines?

1955 Mackenzie VP?

I'm looking at a relatively pristine bottle of this for $170. Any advice from the peanut gallery? I see there are one or two TNs from other vintages in the database, but not this one.

Thanks, John

Re: Port & Madeira at auction - a discussion

I have a number of positive experiences, but the biggest headache, even from experienced, brick-and-mortar auctioneers, let alone internet auctioneers, is that once they get outside well-known items, they are as like as not to misidentify items frequently, and it's near impossible to get more inform...

Re: Time for a little Port Trivia again

Sorry, I didn't hear what the prize was for the correct answer.

Another guess--Q. dos Canais, which fits in with at least some of the clues.

Re: Richard Nixon Port?

This is actually my bottle. I was wondering if anyone could give me a ball park price of what its actually worth? If anyone needs more info about it let me know! Just like any other collectible, this can be a tough question, especially since what's inside the bottle is influenced by how it's been s...

Re: Richard Nixon Port?

Eric, perhaps it was 1959 Margaux he drank. Don't remember exactly, but I do know that that was the only wine he had in his cellar. You can still go to Caucus Club in DC and see his storage box there.

Re: Richard Nixon Port?

If you want a guess, I'd say one case. RMN was known to be a wine drinker, but his usual tipple was, I think, 1959 Latour and nothing but.

Something interesting over on http://dat.erobertparker.com/bboard/sho ... ost2602893, Roy. You probably would find it interesting, if you haven't seen it yet.
