Re: Your Top Madeiras Tasted in 2009

My favorite from 2009 would have to be the Barbeito 1948 malvasia and D'Oliveiras 1988 Terrantez Colheita. The latter is quite excellent and has an OK price point (around $ 90 here in Norway - and remember that is after adding 25% VAT and several alcohol taxes [shok.gif] ). I have one questions thou...

Re: Do you remember your very first FULL CASE purchase of Port?

Yum! Congratulations, that's an excellent first full-case purchase! You're going to enjoy those bottles for many years to come... assuming you don't power through them in the next year, of course! [cheers.gif] It will be hard to resist, but I want to keep some of them for future occasions. :y...

Re: Do you remember your very first FULL CASE purchase of Port?

Indeed I do! I remember it as if it were yesterday, er well, in fact it was yesterday.

Based on recommendations from all you wonderful Port lovers on this forum and after looking at Roy's Top 12 Ports, I decided to invest in a full case of Fonseca 1985. I can't wait to try it! [cheers.gif]

Re: Need some advice on Tawny Ports

Thank you for the advice! I'll definitely try the Ramos Pinto then, and most probably the Taylor and Noval. As for the fourth, I'm torn between Niepoort and Quinta do Vallado. I tasted the Niepoort recently and thought it was very good, but I'm also interested in trying something new. I'll have to t...

Need some advice on Tawny Ports

I'm planning on holding a port tasting in a few weeks where the theme is 20 year old Tawny Ports, and I'd really appreciate some advice on which to buy. Unfortunately as I live in Norway, I'm restricted to what I can buy, though the state retail company has a good selection of 20 y.o. Tawny Ports. I...

Thank you kindly for the invitation Roy! I would very, very much like to come with you but unfortunately studies and work make it impossible for me to travel abroad in May. But I can assure you that I'd like to take you up on your offer next year, if you have a Fortification Tour in 2009! :D PS! I a...

Yes, they have it in stock, and as you say it's apparently cheaper here than most other countries! That's a first for me, since the prices here with taxes are mostly a bit higher. Take for example a Fonseca 1994, which I had to pay $ 370 for, while the lowest price on Wine Searcher is around $ 135. ...

Reidar, thanks for the tip! I'll look up the new SAS route. :) It seems that (finally) we have a reasonable price for a madeira here in Norway. I probably should buy a small supply of these bottles. Do any of you know how much is left of this vintage? I know they have at least a dozen or so bottles ...

I haven't decided yet, but I don't think I can afford a side-trip to Madeira so most probably it'll only be mainland Portugal.

1834 Barbeito Malvazia Vintage Madeira

I'm considering buying a bottle of this Madeira wine at $440. Is that a good price for this wine? I'm considering taking a trip to Portugal this summer, and I can only take a limited amount of bottles back home with me, so I'm trying to find out what to bring. If this Malvazia is half the price in P...

Yikes, if it's going at GBP 15 in the UK it's seriously overpriced here. Even factoring in Norwegian sales tax (25%) and alcohol taxes ($10 per btl.), it's quite expensive. Thank you for the reply and the offer Tom, I really appreciate it. Unfortunately it's illegal to import or buy alcohol for indi...

Calem vintage 1994

I'm considering buying a bottle of Calem 1994 VP, as it is one the few '94 VPs I can get a hold of. Unfortunately I can't seem to find any TNs or experiences with this wine. It's a bit pricey, even for Norwegian standards, at USD 118 per btl. If any of you have tasted this VP, would you recommend it...

I just bought a few bottles of this wine after a recommendation from a friend, and I'm looking forward to enjoying a bottle tomorrow while following "Super Tuesday" on TV with a friend. :D I read in a review that it was still quite young for it's age, and I was wondering if it could benefi...
