Re: Symington Announce 2023 Vintage Ports
Taylor’s has announced Sentinel is being released. But oddly, no others mentioned. Yes, and it is described as a Pinhão valley blend. So what about Quinta de Vargelas? Was it a bust in 2023? Edit: moved to this thread as it's more appropriate here than in the Symington thread. Not only described as...

1985 Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port
1985 Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port imported by Premium Port Wines, Sonoma CA I note the importer because PPW belongs to the Symingtons and is their importer in the US. I.e., bottles should be good. Color: medium garnet with some bricking. Some orange approaching the rim, but the rim itself is clear. ...

Re: What have you opened this week?
Kopke 1965 colheita, bottled in 2022. Definitely not corked, but the bottom of the bottle was full of fine sediment so I decanted it carefully, losing only a single pour that was cloudy, with the rest of the bottle crystal clear. How is the '65? Have you had the '66 and '67? Are they all comparable...

Re: Anyone interested in a Virtual Tasting?
I also have the opinion that 10YO tawnies have really improved in quality in the last couple of years. I am of the same opinion. When I first got into Port (which was a mere 20-ish years ago) I didn't like 10 Year Olds. They were confused, seemly neither tawny nor ruby. Only rarely would I bother d...

Re: Smith Woodhouse from the 1990s
Your narrative says it is 1992, but the score card says it is 1991.
Smith Woodhouse appears to have declared both, so that's no help.

I haven't heard anything yet, either. Alle is in Europe, though, so maybe they're getting theirs first this time.

2015 Graham LBV
Still a great LBV. Lots of juicy fruits. Alcohol is starting to take on a cognac-like note.

2015 Graham LBV
Opened for a virtual tasting. 7th bottle out of a case. Color: inky dark purple, mostly opaque Nose: lots of purple fruits and some black fruits. Even some Concord grape. Smells very juicy. Palate: smooth and juicy, but not as boisterous as past bottles have been. At 10 years old, these are starting...

Re: What have you opened this week?
But what makes me smile is that when we went on that first tour, those 1977s were the same age as the 1997s are today. I had a similar lightbulb moment last year when I realized that it's really not surprising that I'm really starting to enjoy Ports from the 1990s, because they're about the same ag...

Re: Comprehensive list of 50 Year Old Tawny & White Ports
Lot listed as a 50 year old, but Viera e Sousa Very Old White is a 50 year old. I think Roy is talking specifically about the new 50 Year Old category. DR's old "Very Old White" was also 50 years old, but pre-dated the new category. They've now stopped making it and make a "50 Year O...

50 Year Old Whites that I know of off the top of my head: Dalva DR Enólogo Kopke Messias Quinta da Devesa Quinta das Lamelas Quinta do Mourão (S. Leonardo) Quinta da Prelada Vista Alegre (Vallegre) Vasques de Carvalho Quevedo I'm probably missing some obvious ones, too, but those are the ones that c...

Re: Symington Port Townhouse Coming Soon
Looks interesting. Hopefully it will have a soft open in May so that I can stop by and check it out while I'm there. Somehow I doubt that it's going to drag me away from Bacchus Vini and/or LaDo, though. The article makes it sound too commercial for my taste. (Like World of Wine. Was fun to visit on...

Re: What have you opened this week?
I opened a 2015 Graham LBV, a 2011 Graham VP, and a 1970 Graham VP for an educational tasting. The LBV is showing signs of maturing slightly. It's no longer boisterously fruity, but is still delicious. I think I have 5 left, so I'll probably queue them up for drinking more regularly now. The 2011 se...

Re: What have you opened this week?
I have a magnum of that as well. You've put my curiosity at bay at least. +1 There must have been a lot of that put in magnums. It sure seems like it. I've been present for the opening of at least ... 5? 3 of which were mine, and I still have 8 more. In my experience, there's a pretty distinct diff...

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?
2 bottles of Niepoort 1952 garrafeira, bottled in 1955 and decanted in 1974. Interestingly, if I understand the current rules correctly this would not qualify as garrafeira today. I’m not sure what it would be - reserve ruby maybe? Interesting! I don't recall the rules for Ruby Reserve (vs Ruby), b...

Opened an Andresen 20 Year Old White Port last weekend for a "Champagne and Fish" dinner. Worked really well, and I thought it paired better with a couple of the dishes than the Champagne did!

Re: What have you opened this week?
1985 Croft magnum. Clean, no trace VA. Youthful. A very nice VP. Perhaps not the most profound, but excellent. Maybe 93 points and well worth the 400 GBP for the 6. You were lucky. I’ve stopped opening Croft 1985, I’ve just had such a run of bad bottles. When clean they're really very good. I have ...
