Re: What have you opened this week?

Am visiting family in Hong Kong and opened a 2017 Taylor LBV I was able to find here. It's super duper solid. Smooth and impressive. And held up very well for a full week, only half of which was in the fridge which I assume bodes well for it's longevity. Definitely will be keep an eye out for more ...

Re: TFP Declare 2022 VP

Heh, when I went looking for a declaration today, I found this on the Fladgate Partnership website: Over time, The Fladgate Partnership has brought together four of the main Port houses. Taylor’s, founded in 1692, was joined by Fonseca and Croft. Math is hard. Hahaha. Maybe they just didn’t want to...

DR 30 Year Old Tawny Port

It will be interesting to see if the blend for this changes significantly now that DR is no longer making a 40 (they're skipping straight from 30 to 50).

So you're saying that I should be opening these '05 Crasto TNs that I have?

Re: 2003 Warre Vintage Port

30 is the new 20 when it comes to minimum opening years for modern top tier VP's. That's been my rule of thumb pretty much since I started drinking Port. I always thought that the horizontals we've done at 20 years old were much too soon... virtually all of the VPs are still too young at that age, ...

2008 DR White Colheita. I'm starting to run low out of the 2 cases of this that I purchased. Yes, it's that good, and pretty astounding QPR.

Re: What have you opened this week?

1991 Andresen Colheita How was it? I really like their Colheitas. Really good. I opened this to go with dessert at the end of an Easter dinner, and didn't take notes. Roughly I'd say it wasn't as good as S.Leonardo 40 (just had one of those, which of course costs more too), but lived up to my expec...

Re: what is meant by stylistic certification

I am unable to fully comprehend what is meant by stylistic certification for example, a madeira labelled Velho is a madeira in conformity with the standard of 5 years old Does this mean that none of the wines in the blend may actually be 5 years old but that the organoleptic qualities as determined...

Re: What have you opened this week?

Checking on a 2011 Ramos Pinto Vintage . Like many 2011, this is aging really slowly. Still quite tannic and on its primary fruit flavours. I'll need to be more patient :) I think 2011 is going to go down as one of the best vintages for Port in a very long time. There was also a lot of hype about 2...

Re: Richard Mayson on Graham's The Stone Terraces

I am looking forward to the GST vertical in two months. That will be a ton of fun! :scholar: There is a reason that I always hold those tastings in the Spring, and you alluded to it in your post. I have found that the youngest GST tends to score very well every time I hold one of these tastings, bu...

Re: Taylor buying Quinta do Portal

I'm assuming he means the label. That way he doesn't have to backtrack. I see your point, but would hope they would admit to a mistake before making that claim. O.k., there is never a "2030 Taylor Touriga Nacional Douro Red," but there is TFP owned "2030 Quinta do Portal Douro Red .....

Re: 1937 Porto Rocha Colheita

I think I still have a bottle and a half. I don't feel like there's any rush to drink them. You just have to be really careful when opening them to keep the super fine sediment out. That sediment seems to affect the flavor as well as the texture, even if you use cheesecloth to decant. (Even cheesec...

1937 Porto Rocha Colheita

1937 Porto Rocha Colheita (b. 2007) Opened for the March meeting of the Sammamish Port Club. Decanted for 5 hours which was just about right. It was still improving slightly, though, so maybe 6 would have been better. I've owned this bottle since 2009 or 2010 and it's been sleeping peacefully in one...
