Re: 2010 Wine Spectator top-100 countdown

At a quick glance 6 Washington wines and 4 Oregon wines. So 10% is all right. I am continuing to stock up on both these regions wines, with heavy emphasis on Washington because of pricing.

TN: 2001 Dona Maria 2005 do Vale Meao

Just general impressions from a dinner a while ago. These were the standout bottles of about 10 wines. First up is the Dona Maria, bought and cellared 4 upon release in 2003. Decanted 2 hrs. Absolutely stunning wine, still big in the mouth, still tannins present with a lot of life ahead. 93 pts. I'm...

Garagiste 2006 Quinto do Crasto old Vines Reserva $23.00

2006 Quinta do Crasto Douro Reserva “Old Vines” - $22.94 (WA91)(WS92)(IWC/NR) (compare at $35-50+) As good of a deal as the Barbaresco is, this is even better. If you are looking for deep, extractive depth and spice-tinged, tobacco-laced substance (that still has elegance and a satiny texture), this...

Picked this out of a friends cellar. Unpretentious bottle which I appreciate. Popped and poured. Colour: A beautiful dark garnet red. Wow a wine that is not purple. Nose: Because of no decanting time there was very little on the nose, mostly dominated by VA and alcohol. Palate: Very nice mouthfeel,l...

Re: 2003 Graham's Vintage Port

Roy you make some good points. Port usually is an after thought, but after tasting it you always ask why we don't drink more. Therefore I will try to champion your cause and !. drink more Port 2. pour more Port for friends Darrin paid 100.00 for the Grahams so it is not cheap in BC. Even though you ...

Re: 2003 Graham's Vintage Port

Three best friends and my wife get together regularly to taste wine, one is set to leave for his summer break soon. Because of this, we had a special wine or two for our last tastings. The wines we had for the meal and tasting were 2005 Dr. Loosen Wehlener Sonnenuhur Riesling Auslese, Delas Marquise...

I finally found some scribbled down notes. Coincidentally I drank this around Oct 20 too. I can not come close to Andy's beautiful review, but here goes. On the nose stewed rhubarb, green onion, wet earth and some menthol heat. The palate has a great mouthfeel. Like Andy, I got a powerful blast of r...

2002 Quinta do Vale Dona Maria Rio Torto

The Northern Fanatics gathered Friday night at a Pub within walking distance of our home sto sample 3 wines. all poured into a decanter, a couple of vigorous wrist rolls and into Bdx glasses. 2005 Godolphin, very good, some tannic structure which is not always noticeable in most Aussie wines. Tannin...

Re: Quinta do Crasto Douro Old Vine Reserva - WS #3 of the year

Talked to the distributor last week about getting a case from Alberta and he said. "There will be NO 2006 OLD VINE RESERVA for Alberta." BC got 70 cases last week and that will be it. The 20.00 and 30.00 that Mahmoud paid imo is a great price and would be a no-brainer for me.

Re: TN: Crasto Old Vines Reserva 2006

I agree with Otto, this wine is FAR different than the last few vintages. According to the distrubutor it contains some amounts of declassified Da Ponte and Maria Theresa. This has added a steel core of tannin to this wine, it is not juicy, sweet or forgiving right now. That said this still made me ...

Re: Quinta do Crasto Douro Old Vine Reserva - WS #3 of the year

CONGRATUALTIONS Quinto do Crasto. As Roy stated it couldn't happen to a nicer producer. These guys travel tens of thousands of miles in the tireless effort to promote Douro wines. Well done. Do people agree with WS giving the 05 a better rating than the 04. Personally I like the 04 better. I see the...

Re: Other wine besides Port ...

Roy that sounds like a good idea. Is the Taptiel vineyard more than one varietal? How was 2006 in Washington? I have heard that all the vintages in 2000 have been good to great .

Re: 2000 Quinta do Crasto Reserva

Thanks for the info Frederick. I thought that Susana was the assistant for Dona Maria. I could be mixed up though, because at the Vancouver winefest, the Crasto table and Dona Maria table are always side by side. I won't forget the tall bombshell winemaker though.

Re: Other wine besides Port ...

I'm really getting turned on to Washington reds, Betz, Mark Ryan, Cadence, Buty. Touring Willamette valley this Thanksgiving for the second year in a row. What really floats my boat is being able to procure some of the best wine in whatever region for under 100.00. Which you can do in Washington, Or...

Re: Does anybody care about the World Series this year?

Yes I haven't missed one in years. Too bad you have to put up with Tim Mccarver. If I had to listen to Tim Mccarver for a whole game I wouldn't even tune in, his partner Joe Buck doesn't even cover for him anymore. What a moron. On the other hand the Fox International feed teams ??? O'brien with Ric...

Andy. From 97- 01 I would say they are similar. Starting in 2002 they seem to be a bit richer, more oak. I don't know if they changed winemakers. I will ask Miguel when I see him in March if they changed winemaker or consciously changed styles. I still like the new style, And at least you can tell i...
