What's Up With Terrantez?

Tonight I was looking through Alex Liddell's book Madeira, and M. Broadbents. I noticed how many outstanding review there are for Terrantez, 1795 Barbeito, 1802 Acciaioly, 1834 Barbeito, 1846 Blandys-Cossart Gordon-Borges, 1862 Borges, 1870 Blanys, 1877 Borges, 1899 Blandys and Cossart Gorden, etc. ...

Re: TN: 1834 Barbeito Malvazia

Just bought 2 more of the 1834. A store in Northern California was blowing it out, $250 dollars below RWC prices. I picked up the two they had and they are in perfect order. I bought my first 2 from RWC and they came with paper labels. On a visit to RWC I saw one that was stenciled and bought it. Th...

Re: TN: 1900 D'Oliveira Moscatel

It's been two years since I drank this one. I remember being delighted with it, but questioned if it should be as sweet as it was. Rich and hedonistic it fulfilled that need for a bold experience but maybe just too sweet and that took the edge off of it for me. I do have a sweet tooth also but maybe...

Re: TN: Henriques & Henriques Grand Old Bual

Marco I purchased my bottle in April 2006 when I visted Henreques and Henreques. At the time they were $500. I also bought a Malvasia Reserva which is of similar age. As I said earlier, I am sorry that I didn't buy more when I was there and they were available. When I drank the Grand Old Boal I thou...

Re: TN: Henriques & Henriques Grand Old Bual

Marco I had this Madeira last year and posted a note on it. I did so because I wanted to see if anyone else had tried it and liked it as much as I did. All the responses were very positive towards the wine. I think what I liked the best is it's balance. It was rich, sweet, acidic, all at the same ti...

Re: 1860 Leacocks Sercial Solera

Roy Thanks for the information. Interesting and informative. A friend of mine outside London has a private wine business which sells to the UK trade and to private customers also. He sometimes buys wines from a gentleman who has a large cellar and buys wines to lay down and sell at some future time....

1860 Leacocks Sercial Solera

A merchant friend of mine just bought 6 of this madeira and asked me if I knew anything about it. I have never had one. Has anyone tried this? I have had the Cossart Gordon 1860 Sercial Solera but have never seen this one. Was there a connection between these two houses in the 1860's like there is n...

Roy, see you there. This is one I didn't even have to think about! This should be worth punishing my credit card.

Re: Blandy's Grand Cama De Lobo Solera 1864

Funny you should ask. I actually have a glass of this Madeira next to me as I search the forum. This 1864 has been open, and in my decanter since November. We drank most of it on my 60th Birthday and since I have remembered to go back to it a few times. It's color is a dark caramel, with a very slig...

Re: "T-top" Closures on Madeiras

I also have a case of the 1933 Justino Henriques Malmsey with T-tops and foil. I have found no premature oxidization in any I have tried. I recently opened a Blandy's Solera 1864 Gran Cama do Lobos which had a T-top. I found the contents to be what I expected for a 154 year old madeira and have no r...

Henriques and Henriques Grand Old Boal Reserva

Madeira lovers, I would like to share a tasting experience with you which may have been my best ever. In June, I opened a bottle of Henriques and Henriques Grand Old Boal (Reserva) which I purchased at H&H about 4 years ago while on the island. This non-vintage bottling is thought to be from app...
