'03 - outlive me....

I think it's hard to buy a port that will outlive me and get better after I'm gone! I will try the QdV and Fonseca, both of which I bought, and will hold for 20-25 yrs (God willing).

Derek, Well, I would say he should try as many as he can afford to, and perhaps he will like them all. I also agree that taste IS individual. If it weren't individually discriminating, we would't be having this discussion. But I stand by my belief that even within the tawny subcategory, there may be...

Derek, You have never had a wine you haven't liked? Wow. In each category of beverages, whether it be single malt scotches, bottled water, or ports, there are variations from maker to maker. A person can clearly taste and differeniate between the various makers. Doing such, one forms a hiarchy, a pr...

The first part of your answer comes down to just supply versus demand - low demand for them outside the US (and maybe France and the Iberian peninsula). The second part - even those which do not require decanting, seem to benefit from the additional "storage" time (in my opinion), perhaps ...

Ones I've tried and would recommend from your list - the Optima 10 yo is a good one especially for that price. Taylor 10 yo is good, pricier (around $24 here). LBVs - the Graham's 1999 is sweet, the Niepoort is good but totally different in taste - you'll like one or the other, but not both.

Will it last 40 years?

A friend of mine (no, NOT me! lol) left a bottle of 2003 Niepoort VP in his car. Needless to say, it got hot (was around 85 that day), and now it seems to be leaking a little, could be "corked". I wonder if this will prevent it from lasting a lifetime, if it could be bad in 20-40 yrs, he w...

The 2000 Dow LBV is excellent. For LBVs, I'd also recommend a Fladgate, 1996 or 1997, both around $20. Try an Australian tawny - Whiskers Blake is amazing for $13.

Thanks for the info

First, thanks to all for the replies. I got good information from your responses. If you want to check it out yourselves, it's an item on Ebay, Item number: 6218931936 current bid $175. I think from your responses, and its description (bottled in 1973), it definitely must be a colheita.

Such thing as a 1934 Dalva Vintage port?

Some guy claims to have one for sale. Any thoughts? I never heard of it, or found reviews on it. Thanks.
