Alex,

That makes total sense to me..... I thank you, another fact about port that I did not know. I am waiting to see how the entire bottle goes before making a decision to buy more bottles of it.... So far, so good.

Day 3: I think, as I learn/train my palate, that I am a fan of port that has been opened for a few days, as it seems to me that this port is getting "softer" and more pleasureable as the days progress. I think what I need to do more, is when I pour a glass, to let it sit for quite some tim...

Alex,

Roy's thread is the first place I have ever heard that, so I am going to take a good taste tomorrow night and then see how things are progressing......

Still unsure about the refrigerator thing, but Roy knows more than I do.....

Decanted a bottle of 95 Quinta do Bomfim

All, Decanted my first bottle of this SQP, and was surprised by how strong the smell of alcohol was when first opened. I poured a small taste and let it sit for about 90 minutes in a glass. When I did taste it, I was again surprised, but at how smooth and fruity it was, in contrast to what I expecte...

John I posted a tasting note on the Bomfim '95 on October 23rd, if you want to have a reference to the wine. I enjoyed it, a very pleasant drink but nothing spectacular. Alex Alex, I thought for the $$ the store was selling them for, it was worth a shot to try..... Trying to expand my horizons.... ...

I am impressed with this board more and more!!! I was just going to start a new thread about how I found a local store that has several bottles of Dow's 95 Bomfim, at a good price, but they are standing up. The owner is a very friendly type, so I think if I ask him how long they have been standing u...

Quinta do Infantado 2000 Vintage Porto

All, Came across this in a local shop, and not having heard of it, paused.... Can anyone share their thoughts on this Port? It had the following review posted about it: THE WINE SPECTATOR 91 points: "Excellent, generous young Port. Fantastic aromas of crushed berries, licorice and flowers. Full...

Alec4444,

That is a very similiar thought that also pertains to cigars and humidors..... A full humidor will retain Rh better than a half or near empty one......

I am really leaning towards the Avanti 28 bottle cooler, that cools by thermo-electric means.

All, Thank you. I have been looking at a cooler that cools by thermo-electric means, so the refrigerator does not have a compressor that will cause unwanted vibration. I also think that if the cooler is in a seldomly used, windowless, cool room in the basement, the changes to air temp will not have ...

alec4444,

Thank You! I was having trouble buying the "...fridge is not a good thing for long term storage...." concept.

Also thanks for the heads up on the website, will start looking today.

John

PS Really love the site, and will put some info to use here in the next couple of days.

Thank you for the replies. I have been, and continue to be, a bit confused because I have read on the internet that wine refrigerators/coolers are not to be used for long-term storage (I guess anything over 1 year)...... I was looking at an Avanti 28 bottle one, a Danby 32 bottle and a Kenmore (Sear...

Wine Refrigerators/Coolers for Port

All, Am new here, and to the proper cellaring of vintage port and have a question or two: 1. I have a room in my basement that is constant 65 degrees, is that ok to store bottles of vintage port in? Is it too warm, too cold? 2. I have been thinking about a wine cooler/refrigerator for long term stor...
