Re: 1st Annual FTLOP Gala Port Celebration

This is going to be the greatest port drinking event of our lives! The only fear for me and my wife was our inability to follow thorugh and consume Roy's prescribed protocol of 3 bottles per night! We are both lightweights in a heavyweight title fight! We can't wait to meet everyone! Jeffrey and Lau...

Re: Christmas Port

Laura and I are opening the sister bottle (second) to the first of two 1963 Graham's I ever purchased way back when I first got involved in port and (oh the horror) before my taste for port was mature enough to really appreciate that first bottle which for the most part, ended up wasted as I decante...

Re: Rare Port find at Costco San Diego

I just returned from my Costco in Scottsdale, AZ. They have one of the six in stock! We my and I oogled over it and when I pointed out how many bottles of wonderful mature VP we could get for the $1350, we sighed and moved on, without it. By the way, this Costco in Scottsdale sells more wine than an...

Re: Another darn bottle of corked Cockburn's 1983!

Roy, I may have a bottle of perfect Cockburn 1983 and I don't mind bringing it along with our other delicacies to Seattle. It comes from a mixed case I bought some years back in which some bottles were sublime and others were corked. I made notations on the bottles based on the serial number that de...

Re: 1st Annual FTLOP Gala Port Celebration

Roy, Laura and I would indeed love to come out for the 1st annual FTLOP Gala Port celebration! Bucking the leading trend in the current poll, we chose the 3rd weekend in January as our preferred weekend although the second weekend would work just as well. There is a fair chance that our favorite foo...

Re: #3: What is your favorite vintage of Cockburn's VP?

The only two vintages of Cockburn I've tried are the '83 and the '63. The '63 has been covered in detail on this forum and no one I know would consider it the best vintage for Cockburn. However, the '83 Cockburn is another story. I first tried the '83 about 4 years ago and it was spectacular, everyt...

1963 Graham (Whitwham bottled)

Hello, Has anyone had any experience drinking/tasting a Graham's '63 bottled by Whitwham? I wasn't able to gather much information on Whitwham's other than that at one time this British company bottled vinatge port as well as other fine wines. They also re-corked fine wines as well. My question is m...

Re: Memorial Day Weekend Ports?

It seems rather pedestrian next to a 63 VP but we have enjoyed a 10 YO NV Royal Oporto colheita. A very nice tawny style port with much brown sugar candied cherry notes. Also a great buy at about $30. Hi Richard, A 10 YO Royal Oporto colheita *pedestrian*? No way! I can't think of any port per se t...

Re: Memorial Day Weekend Ports?

I recently picked up half a case or so of Cockburn '63. It was inexpensive and although the Cockurn is one of the lesser Ports of the 1963 vintage, I happen to enjoy its subtle, sometimes delicate yet always consistent showing. It has yet to disappoint as my expectations are commensurate with an 88 ...

Anyone here ever drink Port without a glass?

A very "uncouth" question I know, but a relevant question nonetheless. At times, I find myself stealing a sip or (gasp!)a gulp directly from the bottle or directly from the decanter. It cracks my family up when i do it as it may seem somewhat contradictory to the Port experience I suspect....

Re: When opening a bottle of Port ... how many pours do you get?

Laura and I get four to six pours of Port per bottle although it definetly depends on the vintage and producer as well as our mood on any given evening.

Re: YOUR musical taste and favorite group(s)

Roy, this is a good topic as I suspect most everyone on this website including myself, are just as passionate about their music as they are their Port. My musical preference is for "progressive rock", but I also enjoy "classic country", "vintage American" and jazz fusio...

Re: Do you drink more Port alone ... or with others?

My pleasure in Port has always involved my wife Laura. She and I discovered Port together soon after we met about 5 years ago. I do the all of the research and purchasing and she reaps the rewards. I wouldn't have it any other way. It's a social ritual regardless of the port type. I don't drink Port...

The following bottle of Graham's 1908. It teases me being so close to my reach yet so far from my reality.
