still awaiting tasting...

I've still to get around to doing a tasting. Am moving within the next 2 weeks and as such have not had the time and the requisite relaxation period to do any real drinking/tasting. It is a bottle that I will be drinking once I am all packed however, and I will be posting then.

Cheers

I've been in this gentleman's house many many times and I can attest that temperature is always within the range I desribe--now, humidity levels are something entirely different. A plus is that they were in a cupboard/closet that has rarely if ever been opened in that time, so it's always been dark....

should i buy these ports?

I have come into contact with someone who has a collection of ports for sale... he purchased them from an importer about 9 years ago. Since that time they have been stored on their side in a wine rack (not a proper wine cellar) in a closet. These ports include 1977's, 1980 and 1983's... a mixture of...

Fred

The SW83 was in 375ml bottles. The shop on my street had 11 bottles left as of tonight. I would be happy to get extras if we could find a way to get them to you.

Storage/Display of bottles at my local store

Here in Ontario all alcohol at the retail level is sold via government owned shops; beer is sold through 'the beer store', while all other alcohol is sold through LCBO (licquor control board of ontario) outlets. My local LCBO outlet has a 'vintages' section with a seemingly half-decent selection of ...

They don't have any smaller bottles. Ontario now allows you to bring your own now however, so I believe a benefit of that is that you might be able to re-cork an opened bottle to take home...not entirely sure of that, but will ask. Thanks for the replies so far...this is fun and there is a massive a...

I had thought of that... unfortunately, I don't believe that 1971 was a vintage year... well, in the way that my girlfriend turned out it definately was! [/b]

Which VP to drink from this restaurant list

I already posted this to the Basics section but it was advised that I post here as well for some discussion. Hi all, and so glad am I to have found this place so that I can educate myself more about a relatively recent realization that port is just an absolutely beautiful drink! In two weeks I will ...

Interestingly, they've added a 1980 Grahams to the list now... not aware of their price on it however, but since I was going to give her a bottle of that as a gift for her birthday that night anyway, I may choose to a) stay away from it since we will have it for later that weekend perhaps b) have it...

Thanks Roy I imagine that I will pay a visit to this restaurant a few days ahead of time to ensure that they have the bottle and talk to the sommelier... I have not dined there before and imagine that me calling and asking them to open and decant it before showing up would make them cautious--I will...

Hi all, and so glad am I to have found this place so that I can educate myself more about a relatively recent realization that port is just an absolutely beautiful drink! In two weeks I will be going to a dinner with someone who like myself is a fan of port. Her palette and knowledge is much greater...
