Oops. My wife informs me that our day in Funchal is on a Sunday. Does anyone know of stores, tastings, restaurants etc. that are going on Sunday. The Blandy's lodge appears to be closed on Sunday.
Thanks, Dale

Re: Travel question
thanks
But alack and alass we will be in Funchal on a Sunday. The Blandy's lodge website says they are closed.
Any suggestions for a Sunday in Funchal would be most helpful. Hope we can at least enjoy some ports or madeira while we are there.

Interesting cork/screwtop combination
We had our adult children up for a delayed Christmas dinner and port is always figured up in the dinner equation. We served a port/non-port, a Buller's 1980 calliope vintage port, from Rutherglen, Victoria, Australia. It was a gift to me and my wife when we were visiting with friends last October. T...

Quinta do Valle Meao 2007
Have a question- I just bought a bottle of Quinta do Valle Meao 2007 and Am wondering if we should open it in about three weeks for a taste. I know some of you have given it great reviews. The question is whether or not the wine is open and drinkable now or has it gone into its closed phase and woul...

Re: Port- as a comfort in my old age
Thanks for all the great responses; it's been quite illuminating to hear your suggestions. Al, thanks so much for the queries- it started us thinking...there aren't too many ports that we've tried that we don't like. As a general rule, we like a port that has a lot of mouth feel as well as some tann...

Port- as a comfort in my old age
Does anyone have any suggestions for good port which I can get now that will last me until I am able to drink no more. I'm 62 now and plan on reaching 90...hopefully drinking port along the way. I have loaded up with my favorite Warre's '03. I am also particularly fond of the Quinta de Vargellas '05...

2009 Port Declaration
Does anyone know if any of the 2009 bottlings will be a declared vintage? I have a "thirsty" grandson who was born in '09 and I think he needs to have a few bottles laid up for him when he turns 21! Possibly, are there some single quinta bottlings that are worthy of laying down? What do yo...

Re: Do you believe this still to be a good time to be buying older vintages of Port?
So many bargins,so little time. Port remains one of the best deals on superior "gran cru" wines. Since I have no idea how long I'll live, the 07's interest me. Of course my wife will have to finish them if I am gone, possibly with her new toy boys. More than likely we will both live a long...

Port buys from consignment
Am considering stocking up for the future. Many 2003's, 2000's as well as SQ's of various vintages as well as VP's of the 90 decade appear to be good value for the cellar. However am thinking about some 70 and 80 decades VP for more immediate enjoyment. I stumbled across some oldies at wineconsigner...

Re: What Port are you drinking during the Super Bowl?
Enjoy the game. Just wanted to say that Australians drink port (Australian" Port" ) a lot at their AFL aussie rules games and at home watching. The season is quite long and Port goes down well in the winter. Of course beer is the main brace in warmer climates in Oz, beer and, Bundabergrum ...

Dear David, My wife and I love port and all things port. We have a cellar and would pose two questions to you: I am 60 and have a son, 31, who also enjoys port. What should we lay down both for me now and as a comfort into my old age as well as for my son to enjoy after we're gone? Also, what do you...

Hello All, Thank you, Roy and Andy, for all your kind assistance in getting me engaged properly on the website after I had made a mess of it; I look forward to learning and sharing info here about all things port. By way of introduction, I live in rural Alabama with my wife, Laurie. It's a second ma...

Pedro Ximenez
Don't really know where to ask this question about Pedro Ximenez sherry, but none of the other categories seemed to fit. First had Pedro Ximenez Cien Anos at Willi's Wine Bar and thought it was absolutely wonderful- have tried several others; am looking for good ideas and advice on sweet, port-like ...

What to buy for now and later
Am big fan of vintage ports, especially Warre's. Looking for advice on ports for drink now and over the years, as well as much later, i.e. 2003's. Also seeking advice for Christmas gift ports for my children, using their birthdates of 1976, 1978, 1980, and 1985. Possible vintages they could apprecia...
