For The Love Of Port

(Bottled 2019.) Number twelve of wines tasted before noon on this day, I did not take notes for this one. Instead, I just enjoyed it in all its greatness. A wonderful showing. 97 points! (18 May 24)

(Bottled 2019.) The aroma is both musty and spicy. The flavor has surprising acid freshness. Despite the five years in bottle, this is still going strong. 94 points. (18 May 24)

I note that this is the same score I gave this wine, from the same bottling, six months prior.

(Bottled 2023.) There is a hint of mustiness in the aroma to start, followed by some wood cellar character and sous bois. The mustiness and sous bois are not particularly pleasant, but luckily the flavor is much better than the aroma, making for a very nice drink in the mouth. 94 points. (18 May 24)

(Bottled 2023.) Smells of leather, wood, and dried fruit, like strawberry; then some alcohol spirit shows up. This is quite nice with a lot of fresh and refreshing flavors. 93-94 points. (18 May 24)

(Bottled 2023) The first thing I notice in the aroma is some spirit warmth, followed by a hint of mustiness, then wood and sawdust. There are lots of sugar flavors making for a nice drink, but not quite as good as the 1967 colheita on this day. 95 points. (18 May 24)

(Bottled 2024.) There is light spiciness in the aroma, with true cinnamon, light grass, and dried malt. This is more concentrated than the prior tasted white colheitas (2005 and 2008). The flavor is also spicy, like the aroma, along with a bit of buttercream frosting. 90-91 points. (18 May 24)

(Bottled 2023) There is a light floral aroma with a little bit of apricot, invert sugar, and treacle. The flavor presents assertive freshness with lemon and tangerine, and then candied citrus flavor. 90 points. (18 May 24)

Those were some of my favorites from the Glenn Anniversary Trip. I might have bought some others that were excellent except I managed to snag some in other recent group purchases. Oh, and I picked up some Murganiera, but that's not Port.

Smells musty and woody, with cinnamon and spice. Faint burnt sugar. Lots of fun sugar complexity and flavors with plenty of acid too. This is surprisingly good. Medium bodied. This is both fresh and musty at the same time. Lemon drop syrup mixed with caramel and brown sugar. 93 points. (16 May 24)

This was from an old bottle, ~40 years old, on a dispenser system at Garrafeira Nacional, Porto. Smells musty and burnt, along with aromas of solvent and furniture polish. Like the previously tasted 30 year old tawny, this one also smells a little musty, along with a little cleaning chemical aroma. Then there is brown sugar and brûlée. Lots of acidity, and good sugars combine to make for a nice wine. 92 points. (18 May 24)

(Bottled 11/2023.) Smell musty, dusty, and earthy. Nice acidity, lots of sugar, brown sugar, along with some fruit flavors. There is lemon, apple butter, and the tannic pucker tastes like it comes from apples as well. 91 points. (18 May 24)

(Bottled 4/2024.) Aromas of cinnamon, sugar, and caramel, followed by woody cellar, mahogany, and fruit candy. Medium light body with wood flavors, reasonable acidity, and medium sugar. Nice, but not overly complex. 89 points. (18 May 24)
