20 yr tawny curiosity
Hi, Haven’t posted here in a long time, but thought this might be of public interest, so here goes... Was holding my annual port thing with office colleagues when someone mentioned they had some old bottles they wanted to bring along. Turned out they were 20 Taylor and Warre, but respectively bottle...

I have had this a few times and liked it a lot. 80$ is a reasonable price IMO.

Re: Port shops in SFO and LA
Thanks Andy, I will definitely check the Wine Exchange on my way to SD, they have a very interesting inventory. I only have one night in LA, Friday the 18th, will probably leave towards SD Saturday AM. We plan to be staying somewhere between LAX and Burbank, exact place TBD. If you're available, it ...

Very interesting read... I am always fascinated when I read these descriptions with a dozen aromas and flavour components. Tasting is subjective, that is all

Port shops in SFO and LA
Hi all,
Have a short trip to Cali over XMas, arriving in LA and leaving from SFO. What are the best places to buy VP in both cities these days?
Thanks,
Steve

I'm with Glenn on this one. I've had it twice and while good, I found it to be rather poor value for money compared to Sandeman, Taylor, Ferreira or Barros. Too much alcool coming through for my taste...

1970 Gould Campbell Vintage Port
Tasted: 3-14-2008 Decanted: 6 hours and drunk over 2 days. Medium red and quite dark for it's age, like all the GC's I've had. Nice medicinal/eucalyptus aromas and still decent fruit in there. Just a little bit of heat in the end, but not enough to detract. Not much difference after 24 hours. Drinki...

Re: How many bottles of Port do you own today?
I've been very stable at around 110 bottles for the past 3-4 years. I don't drink much, so about 10-15 bottles come out every year and are replaced by an equal amount coming in.
I usually have 4-5 tawnies/colheitas in there. So my cellar is 98% VP.

Re: Seattle - Where to buy Port
Roy, :thanks: for the advice. You are right that the prices are stupid, overall probably more expensive than here with the USD at 1.30. Still, I managed to pickup a Noval 2003 and a Croft 2000 for 60-65$ a bottle which is not too bad. The Spanish Table does have an interesting selection and I also w...

Seattle - Where to buy Port
Hi, I am pretty sure Roy has answered my question before, but I don't have access to my old e-mails. Anyway, I might be whizzing by Seattle on a quick ski trip and wanted to know if there was a wine shop with good Port price/selection (close to I-5 if possible - don't have time for a lengthy detour ...

Re: Compare Taylor 1995 Q.d. Vargellas to Taylor 1994 et al?
I have had this one at least 3-4 times and I think it is fantastic value for money (paid about 40$ for them). Great grapey port, very enjoyable now and I think it will last another 20 years easily. If you can have it at a decent price, I highly recommend it. Never had the 94, it is above my pain thr...

Sandeman 40 is very nice. A few NH Liquor store used to have them for less than 100$ a couple of years ago which was a really good deal... Wish I had bought more than one
Enjoy!

Re: #16 What is your favorite vintage of Gould Campbell VP?
59$ for 2003 is a good price (66$ here)... GC is probably where I've had the best QPR in vintage port, I really enjoy them a lot. I've had 70, 77, 83, 94 and 2000. 77 has been my favorite, 3 good bottles out of 4, although the "bad" bottle had only been decanted an hour, which might explai...

Re: Going to the UK - Best place to buy VP?
Tom, I had handpulled cider a couple of times while I was in England and it is very nice. Nothing like the pasturized keg stuff. Having brewed beer since I was 15 years old, I can relate to exploding bottles. My best experience was when I lived in a small apartment where I stored my beer in a closet...
