Re: What Douro wine have you purchased this week...

Not a Douro Wine ....

3 X 2008 Dão Vinha Othon Reserva - from the same producer of Vinha Paz (IMO one of the great producers in the Dão with amazing QPR)

Re: What Douro wine have you purchased this week...

A few bottles of 2002 Pintas Red Wine Douro for $30 a bottle. Has anyone tried this vintage? [shrug.gif] I still hold 3 bottles of the 2002 Pintas which i like alot. Tricky vintage on the Douro but some wines came out pretty fine...Pintas being one of them. I think it will age beautifully as the la...

Re: What is the best Portuguese white wine you've had?

My (Lately) best portuguese white wine was probably the Qta. das Bagéiras Garrafeira 2001 drank a year ago....still going strong! I was also impressed with the Wine&Soul Guru 2004.

Re: TN: 2006 Pintas Douro Red (their first level)

The Crasto Maria teresa is not a second lable to the Vinha da Ponte. These are both their top wines made from different single vineyards (Maria Teresa and Ponte). If there is a second label in Crasto is the Quinta do Crasto Colheita but i dont think they have this philosophy in their product line. I...

Re: Help needed finding a particular Portuguese Syrah

Jay,

I believe it was Herdade do Esporao Syrah (the old label) from Alentejo...or Casa Santos Lima Syrah from Estremadura (now Lisbon). The Alentejo wine is usually the better of these two! Good luck with the hunt :-)

1970 Borges Vintage Port

This bottle was a pleasant surprise!!!!!! Looking and tasting more like an old tawny but stilll very satisfying.....Coffee, caramel, sweet milk cake (Doce de Leite), cinnamon. Long on the finish and very silky!! I was really not expecting such a treat!!!

Re: 2006 MARIA TERESA QUINTO DO CRASTO 70.00$ @WINE TILL SOLD OUT

Some of the drinking windows proposed are close to ridiculous.....drink through 2013!!!! Or age it for 4-5 years!!!!! I believe the 2006 vintage in the Douro will not make old bones but a wine like Vinha da Ponte is set at least for 10 years or even more.....have a look at the 1998 or 2000 vintage!!...

Re: TN: 2002 Quinta do Vale Meao Douro

I revisited this bottle in my August visit to Portugal...still young, perfumed, amazing freshness and much more sustained by the acidity than other vintages. Long and silky!!!! Drinking great but one feels that the best is still to come....

Re: TN: 2005 Pintas

Hi Pedro, A friend of mine bought a six-pack of the 2007 and I was allowed to buy two of them! I know I should keep them for a long time but I will have real issues in doing so. Curiousity finding out if 2007 is the best ever as I've heard will mean at least one bottle will have to be sacrified for...

Re: 2005 Pintas

Hi Niklas, Pintas is really a great wine!!! And i'm impressed with the capacity to age of this wine. The 2001 and 2002 are so youthful today and showing amazing potential for an extended nap in the dark. I did't buy the 2005 as i was "loaded" with other vintages but seems i have to re-thin...

Inexpensive (under $20 or 15£ or €) - Quanta Terra Grande Reserva

Mid priced ($20-50 or 15-35£ or €) - Gouvyas Vinhas Velhas

Expensive (more than $50 or 35£/€) - Batuta

Re: TN: 2007 Niepoort Batuta Douro

I was really untouched by all the 2006s i drank, exception made to the 2006 Aneto Grande Escolha and to a lesser extent, the 2006 Poeira... I tasted the 2006 Vale Meao twice and found it miles behind all other vintages...but i have a soft spot for the Gouvyas Vinhas Velhas so it will be hard to pass...

Re: quinta do noval wines

I have to say i disagree!!! Qta. do Noval is a great wine...very polished and with an unusual definition for a Douro wine...

Itº s not cheap at all but delivers, IMO, greatly!!! Havenºt tried the 2007 yet, but the 2005 was a beauty...

I was also impressed with the 2007 Vertente, IMO the best ever....so well made!!!!!!

Did you tried the 2007 Batuta? I'm going to Portugal next week and im trying to prepare a shortlist....strangely 2007 Batuta hasn't been getting that much attention....not as good as 2004 or 2005?

Andy,

Did you ever try the Gouvyas Vinhas Velhas, the top wine of Bago the Touriga?

I believe itºs Douroºs most underated wine....the 2005 is amazing!!!! Hope they will do it in 2007....

Re: A nice pair of Douro wines

This week so far, I've had: 2006 Poeira DOC red wine by Jorge Moreira which was very nice and for about $18-20 a heck of a good value. That seems very cheap for a Poeira. Are you sure it wasn't the "Po de Poeira"? Or was it heavily discounted? My thoughts exactly....Poeira at 20$ is amazi...
