Re: Fonseca 1970 (Army & Navy)
I don't know much about Tiger; however, getting back to PORT: I popped one of the Fonseca (Army & Navy )1970 and gave it a try. I only had time for a 4 hour decant, but... Fantastic cherry & chocolate nose. Big and round on the palate with copious fruit and more chocolate and mocha. The fini...

Re: David Guimaraens - December's Forum Guest Corner Host
David: Thanks for taking the time to answer these questions and be part of this forum: it's much appreciated. I have two questions that I will hope will be fun to answer: 1) Of all the ports that you've personally made, is there one (or two) of which you are especially proud? (I recognize this is a ...

Re: Your Top 10 Port List for 2009 & Discussion
The best of 2009 (so far): !977 Taylor (November 2009) 1970 Fonseca (November 2009) 1970 Taylor (October, June, and April 2009) 1977 Gould Campbell (August 2009) 1963 Croft (June 2009) 1977 Dow (May and February 2009) Honorable mentions might include a 1970 Graham and a 1977 Graham. If I had to pick...

Re: Fonseca 1970 (Army & Navy)
Thanks for all your input... I had previously purchased two cases from George back in 2007 (a case of 1970 Taylor and 1970 Dow) and both had been the Oporto bottling, so I guess I naturally assumed that the 1970 Fonseca would be the same. Obviously, in the future, I'll remember to ask specifically.....

Fonseca 1970 (Army & Navy)
I recently purchased a case of wine from the UK from George Rhys as a present for myself for Christmas. It just arrived and there were a few issues: 1) I found that the case had been bottled by Army & Navy Stores (on Victoria Street in London): it was not the Oporto bottling that I expected (and...

I have not had this particular port; however, I would guess you would be OK with a 6 hour decant. You could probably get away with a 4 hour decant, too...

Re: What's your favorite piece of Classical Music?
I think it is really hard NOT pick Beethoven's 9th Symphony as the greatest (if not my favorite); however, other pieces worth mentioning include Beethoven's 14th string quartet and Mahler's 9th Symphony. I guess, right now in September 2009, I'll say Mahler's 9th symphony is my favorite....maybe it ...

Last evening, we had Steak au Poivre with a 2002 Pichon Baron. Then, we had a chocolate cake with a 1977 Graham's.
A wonderful evening....

I would take the 1970 Taylor myself, although both are great wines.

Re: Choose a Bottle, Any Bottle...
My list:
1) 1948 Taylor
2) 1948 Fonseca
3) 1931 Noval
4) 1927 Fonseca
I know should only have 1 "Holy Grail" but I'd have a hard time picking less than these four.

Re: Wine, NY, the Law and frustration
Yes, of course... I don't mean to fault FTLOP or anything: I am only frustrated that these kinds of laws exist. That is to say, why should sending me (or any adult) wine that happens to cross state lines be such a big deal!

Re: Wine, NY, the Law and frustration
This is extremely frustrating. On a related note, I live in Virginia and have thus been unable to order anything from the past two FTLOP offers. Sometimes when I order wine online, I can get around a retailer tha won't/can't ship to Virginia by having the wine delivered to family in Illinois, who wi...

I got this e-mail, too. Can anyone comment on the difference between those bottled on Oporto and those with the Loeb bottle (and assumably bottled in England)?
