Re: Vote for Oscar Quevedo!!!!

Micky Jensen? Well look what the cat dragged in. Who woulda thunk it? It must have been a very long vacation! [friends.gif] Haha, hey Roy and gang :) Well, for some reason I think I misplaced the link once upon a time, and unfortunately my mind is fickle in that regard, so after not coming here a f...

Re: Decanting (and more) information needed.

Thanks for the replies, guys :)

Roy: I just checked that link and read your (and the guests) tasting notes, as well as your preparation. Was really useful, thanks!

We will do our best to get some TN's and some pictures as well :)

Decanting (and more) information needed.

This saturday, we are 4 people getting together to taste some of our very first '63 Vintage port, and a few other things. Since we have actually not tasted, nor decanted this old port before, we would like to make sure that we are not doing any rookie mistakes. What I would like a bit of help with, ...

Re: Madeira 101?

So now I bought a H. M. Borges Madeira 10 Years Old Malmsey, to have something to begin with. Will let you know later, whether it sparked my interest or not :)

Re: Madeira 101?

Rainwater is a basic blend, the lowest quality level. It is a drier wine. You might want to try wines with an indication of age, i.e. 5 year old, 10 year old, 15 year old. If the name of the grape variety is on the label, i.e. sercial, verdelho, bual, malmsey or malvasia, so much the better. Ah ok,...

Re: Madeira 101?

Ok, thanks for all the replies! I will definately read up some more on it then, and visit one of my local port-dealers, as I can see he has some stock of Madeiras as well, and see if I can get a nice selection to start up with, and see the differences. Btw, I think I tasted one, called "Rainwat...

Madeira 101?

So... whats with all this madeira? I tried looking for a faq or collected post to get some more information about why all you port-fanatics are so fond of madeira as well, but it seems to elude me. Could someone point me in the right direction, or just give a brief intro about it, so I know whether ...

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

I've been to Denmark once about 12 years ago during my University days, when I was doing the whole backpack around Europe thing. I wasn't planning on going, but was on a train and speaking to a couple of locals in Germany about where a good out of the way place to go was and they mentioned Silkebor...

Re: What is the first known LBV Port?

1927 Ramos Pinto. Thats also what I have found. Meaning that its the first one that the institute of port have registered. However, they are not ruling out that LBV was produced before, and Oldenburg says that some of the older Vintages(from the 1770-1890ies) was produced in very much the same way ...

Re: What is the very first SQVP?

O.K. - there seems to be a few conflicting stories concerning this topic, regardless of that Vargellas is generally considered as the producer of the first Single Quinta Port. Some accounts mention the 1820's as the timeframe of the initial Single Quinta Port from Vargellas although the 1958 Vargel...

Re: Is Port or Champagne part of your New Year's Eve plans?

Our current line-up looks like this: - Kopke VP, 1970 - Ramos Pinto VP, 1982 - Martinez VP, 1985 - Fonseca-Guimaraens VP, 1995 - Sao Pedro, 40+ Tawny And we are still missing one guys ports, but I think it will be a Nieeport 1987 VP and a Delaforce Curious and Ancient*, 20yr Tawny. And for the bubbl...

Re: 2003 Quinta do Noval LBV

For the EU guys, I can say that they have this at a very decent price in the airport in Helsinki, Finland at the moment! I picked up 2 bottles 2 weeks ago, and opened one of them the weekend before christmas, at my wifes family, and it was a genuine delight. It was my first Quinta Do Noval, but no d...

Ah ok, makes sense that the thread just kinda faded then.

I did send you a PM yesterday as well, but I can just paste it into an email instead for more info.

And we will for sure be interested, as long as it is within our (very loose) budget :)

Hello All :) Name´s Micky, age 34, and from Denmark. I work in the IT-industry as a programmer. I was a Whisky aficionado for quite some years, and had some great trips to Scotland (Islay mainly), until I encountered some good portwine a couple of years ago. This happened together with 3 of my close...

Re: PLANNING A HARVEST TOUR FOR UK & EU GUESTS

Hello guys,

First time poster here btw.

I was wondering if you ever did make this EU trip to Portugal?

We are 4 danish guys that went to Oporto last year, with a small trek to Pinhao, and we are definately planning on going again in 2009.

Cheers, Micky.
