Hi Mahmoud,
It's a brand belonging to the company of Henriques & Henriques in Camara de Lobos. Made from Tinta Negra. Sweeter style.
Let us know how it was!

Agree Roy. Bruno seemed most competent. But anyway, will be fun to meet Paula. And the rest of the gang.

Re: Huge news in Madeira!
Bruno didn't meet the formal requirements (holding a degree for 10 years) so instead an new Paula - Paula Luísa Jardim Duarte - was appointed the president of IVBAM. I've heard good things about her, that she's committed and will take the fight for Madeira wine! Sadly, many people like Rubina is not...

Re: Exciting news from d'Oliveiras!
Hi Eric,
Yes, they will! And since there are a couple of thousands of liters still in canteiro I have high hopes the ABSL label will live on for several of years.

Exciting news from d'Oliveiras!
Last week I met Anibal, Filipe & Luís d'Oliveira in Funchal. Had a good chat with Anibal who is now 81 years old. So nice to meet this true gentleman again. The good news delivered by Luís regarded Artur Barros. Next year d'Oliveiras will start bottling some ABSL wines. Since the wines of the Ol...

Re: Starting up a new Madeira company
Hi Roy, Happy new year! I'm looking forward reading your opinion on Madeira Vintners. It's a really ambitious project that Paulo Mendes has started, with focus on quality and close collaboration with the farmers. I've written a handful of posts about MV last year and am really excited to follow Paul...

Re: DOMINIC SYMINGTON
Dear Dominic, I have a more general question which I have given some thought but somehow never asked a Port producer. In Douro you use aguardente with 77% alcohol content. In Madeira the aguardente used holds 96%. Madeira benefits from vinic alcohol with a higher alcohol content as the amount needed...

You bet Roy! I've been, just like you, putting a lot of focus in revamping the site but now it starts looking quite nice. I will make sure more people discover the link between our sites, with a post to start with. I guess some of all the great people here already visit my site from time to time, bu...

I hope you will get the opportunity then, to also taste the most recent bottling! It's far superior and has a beautiful concentration. The latest bottle of the 1940 Sercial is from October, 2011.

Hi Yuri,
You have most comitted importers on both Barbeito and d'Oliveiras in UK! Look Raymond Reynolds up for Barbeito and Bovey Wines for d'Oliveiras.

Hi Eric,
Which year was it bottled? Is it the most recent one, from 2011?

Hi Barry,
Please keep us informed. Two bottles are too little to start speculating in a cause, but at the same time it's a strange coincidence.

Re: 1989 D'Oliveiras Malvasia
Yes, I have even had 2011 cask samples of Malvasia which I thought was an extremely balanced and delicious Madeira. That counts as young, right? :yumyum: Justin; I think this comes down to preferences. I for example, find myself craving for young Malvasia, preferably colheitas by either Vinh...

But no mouldy smell or so? The few Madeira wines I've had, which have been cork tainted, were short, tart and also had this unpleasant wet cardboard odour.

Re: The end of an era
And who's left to vinify Listrao or Porto Santo? Hi Eric, According to IVBAM it was more than ten years since any producer bought grapes from Porto Santo. Until this year! The newly started Madeira Vintners and Paulo Mendes has decided to give Listrão a chance. And Caracol from Porto Santo as well!...

Guess it's the Mae Manuela, the 40 Years Old Malvasia? Just ordered it from him and will try in a week or so. My brother had it at Barbeito a few weeks ago and said it was spectacular!

Re: TN: Blandy's 20 Year Old Terrantez
Hi guys,
I'm paying EUR 46 for this one which is roughly USD 60. Think it has an elegance I'm happy to pay for. Quite different from the H&H 20 YO Terrantez and now when I've had them both on several occasions I'm leaning towards the Blandy's.
