Re: Depressed Cork

Perhaps the cork can try writing in a journal.

"Dear diary,

Why so depressed?"

Re: Port Colheita

Hello, thank you by your answer, I understood perfectly what you said in your comment. I live in Lisbon - Portugal, but I have fallen in love with the Douro and his Port. Initially I interested myself only in the Ports Vintage, but after a presentation on the ports with the Eng. Bento do Amaral of ...

Re: Having any Port this weekend?

We're doing a "one night getaway" tomorrow. Hotel in town, museum (Ghengis Khan exibit going on) and dinner out. We;ll be taking the Taylor Fladgate 10 year tawny with us. A dependable and consistent blend. No surprises. Can't forget the block of Havarti either.

Re: Having any Port this weekend?

A Tempranillo tonight, which isn't a Port, but related. I just recently opened a Warre's Otima 10 that was brought over by a friend. It isn't something to jump up and down about, but it was fine when opened and on the second night was really nice. I'm looking forward to working on it over the weeke...

Re: Decanting (and more) information needed.

If you want to evaluate the ports. you should have no flavored foods along with them--nothing to corrupt or bias your tasting, just mild bread and water. If you want to enjoy the ports and explore how they can complement various foods and how these might bring out other interpretations, by all mean...

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

O.k., Bob, with all those photos on the wall behind the ports, I have to ask: Are you on the Adventure Rider forum ? -Eric Yeah, I'm on Advrider. I go by X1Glider. I pretty much just lurk in the ride report forum and dream to the excellent pics and not actually post anything. The ride reports take ...

Re: Your Port decanter

What!?!?!?!?!?! Put a $200+ bottle of port in a $40 decanter! :snooty: :P I was more curious about the preferred shape and wether it should be pure glass and have a stopper. I don't see the sense in a leaded crystal decanter, especially if something is recommended to stay in it for a week or up to 2...

You missed the humor, my friend. A bottle never lasts more than an hour once we open it! :winebath:

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

If you're really lucky - and you'd have to be pretty seriously lucky to find it - get a bottle of the 1977 Porto Rocha. There's none left in the cellar in Vila Nova de Gaia, but you can find an occasional bottle at a retailer or distributor. I thought I had a 77 Rocha this year, turns out it was a ...

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

No grapefruit juice there or juice boxes. We created a few gallons of a drink called "Hot Romance" for the wedding reception and are trying to drink up the leftovers. :drunk: When I do get to travel downtown to the big Specs (we have closer locations but all carry the lower quality stuff) ...

Re: Your Port decanter

I need to get one. Most of what I buy is ready to drink (serrated cap/corks) so I've gotten away witout it.

I do wish I had one for those times I pick up something with a full cork. I'm just unsure of what to look for.

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

Hi, Bob Krzeszkiewicz here. C'mon..I dare you to pronounce it. I've been drinking port for probably 20 years but never really got too in depth with it. The stores here have a pretty limited selection...that's my excuse. My knowledge is pretty limited so I have nothing to realy offer. Basically...
