Re: what crisis?
Taylors SCION, is a Vintage from 1855, that has been passed from generations in the hands of the same family living in Régua. In 2008 David Guimaraes tasted it and said that the complexity of this Port was amazing. In 2009 the last person in charge of this treasure passed away and by leaving no heri...

It is amazing that people may taste for FREE the "premium" Ports like the Golden Whites 1952/ 63; 30y, over 40y old, 20y dry white and colheitas from the sixties and eighties... It has been rewarding, seeing people walking around after visiting us and then come back...distinctive Ports and...

Any idea what time da Silva opens? I will probably have a couple of hours to spend in Porto / VndG over lunch before I have to catch a flight from the airport at 1700 in a few weeks time. It would be great to say hello to Goncalo. Hi Al, like Cynthia said I open the C. da Silva store/tasting room f...

Re: What is the greatest decade for Vintage Port between 1940-2010?
1990s - 1990 is weak, 1991 and 1992 are not yet really showing what they can deliver, 1993 is non-existent, 1994 has a great reputation and deserves it, 1995 is a lovely easy vintage, 1996 is a strong vintage, 1997 is a great classic vintage that might develop the way that 1966 has, 1998 is underes...

A Port milestone !
The barco rabelo (a small skiff used for the Port transportation) loaded with 40 to 50 pipes, that on that time (17th century), due to whirpools, exaggerated weight and strong tides was sank for lots of times during those brave journeys. In 1887 with the railway construction, the Rabelo started to ...

It´s true that there is a massive advertising around Noval Black ... for ex. http://novalblack.com/... and it´s advisable to drink it chilled before a meal or pairing it with a dark chocolate muffin or a piece of chocolate, but writting this article with a Martini glass side by side with a ruby rese...
