Gran Cruz buys stock and contracts from CCVP

Gran Cruz continues to invest money and bought for approx. EUR 14 million the Port Wine stock of Companhia Comercial de Vinho do Porto. I must confess that I have never visited this company - but they were large... Cruz bought about 6.5 million liters (around 11-12 thousand pipes). Gran Cruz didn't ...

Re: A Pipe of 1963 Fonseca

468 bottles = 39 lots of 12 bottles each.
39 x GBP 1,500 = GBP 58,500.

Not a bad return for a GBP 252 investment in 1966... especially as they still keep bottles back and have consumed some over the years...

Why couldn't my grand parents buy a few of those pipes back then?

Re: Off the grid: power in Portugal

Yup - I think it's pretty cool that Portugal focuses so much on renewable energy. Who knows - maybe that is still because of Salazar and his promoting of an absolutely independent Portugal. While I like renewable energy I must say that these big wind-turbines on the Douro hills are a real eyes-ore.....

Visit Report about QUINTA DO BOMFIM

It’s very nice to see that after all the (well deserved) buzz around GRAHAM’s 1890 Lodge and its Vinum Restaurant (fantastic place in Gaia) it’s now the time for DOW to shine... The QUINTA DO BOMFIM in Pinhão has opened its doors for visitors last summer – and what an experience it is! We visited th...

Re: NO SPOILERS (Please!!!) Star Wars

If I'm asked how old I am, I always say that on the inside I'm somewhere between 22 and 26. However, sitting in the new STAR WARS movie, I realized that inside I'm 12 or so... When the first yellow letters appeared on the screen, I joined in applauding like crazy... very emotional moment... goose-bu...

What's going on with Taylor's 1994?

Interesting statistic: http://www.taylor.pt/en/news/vintage-port-investment/ Is this the aftermath of the 2011 declaration? Has it brought some attention to vintage port, and people go and get old vintage ports that are still reasonably priced and from a solid producer? Or is this index just "r...

Re: Dec. 2015: Your best Port tasted this year?

That is easy to answer: The 60 Year old S.Leonardo! It was the perfect wine for the perfect occasion and location! My girl-friend celebrated her round birthday in Italy and we had a predicament. We hadn't been finishing the bottle the day before and we had to be in 3 hours at the airport. We had alr...

Re: Gould Campbell to be discontinued?

I have been to several tastings where at the end of the evening a lot of people very confused and amazed that Gould Campbell was voted wine of the night, leaving the vintages from top-producers like Graham's, Taylor's and Dow behind... They are so nice to drink and often just right. It would be a re...

Breaking news: Taylor's buys VINTAGE HOUSE Hotel

Adrian Bridge had said before that he looks to establish a high end hotel in the Douro, kind of Yeatman equivalent. Now TFP has announced that they bought back the Vintage House, which they had sold in 2002. They also bought the land around the hotel and will add another building to the property to ...

Re: Do you have a Port "bucket list"?

That is a very easy question. 2066 Graham 2041 White Colheita Wiese & Krohn As I turn 100 in the summer of 2066, I want a really good wine from that year. I will drink it at release in the summer of 2068. I know, it's a crime to drink a Vintage Port so young - but I understand that at that point...

Thanks for sharing this, Andy. This is fantastic news. Like everything that the Symingtons have done lately (Graham's 1890 Lodge, Cockburn Loge) I'm sure that this Quinta will also be an amazing experience. I really thank this family for all the money that they put into the Port trade infrastructure...

First of all: Thanks, Roy - you have done an amazing job to set this all up. I love these wines and the pricing seems absolutely fair. My only complaint is that we have a whole week to place orders. I placed my order of course in the beginning of the week... and now I'm starting to think "Oh my...

Re: Cocaine Port

I think that's okay. The Port Trade has to find new markets. It's something like the Pink Ports. Something new and exciting to attract new consumers to Port. I see nothing wrong with that. For me it's really cool because I'm more a Tawny drinker than a Ruby fanatic. The question is of course for how...
