1955 Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port
Base neck, generally sound cork, very slight seepage. Stubbornly cloudy, medium-light garnet color, orange at the rim. Quite spirity throughout, but with a firm core of dusty, sweet fruit. No tannins, minimal acidity, decent length and tawny notes on the finish. This bottle was not going to improve ...

1945 Croft Vintage Port
1945 Croft Vintage Port (8/27/2015) Oporto bottled, lovely brown glass bottle, fill into neck. 8 hours in open bottle, then 3 hours in decanter. Incredibly youthful ruby color in the decanter, medium depth. With time in the glass, this shed much of its fumy alcohol, revealing beautiful bright red f...

Re: Decision ... any strong opinions?
Roy, sorry I missed this thread until now...my experience with the 99 is that it can be an alcohol bomb. Hopefully you got that bad boy in the decanter in time to settle it down a bit. But then, I have been told I have a little girl palate, so you may find the profile less harsh than I have [cheers....

That is high. But I'm usually prepared to pay a premium to RWC given their provenance is usually superb and there are a lot of crappy old bottles being peddled online these days.

Re: Grand Vin Wine Merchants WORST transactin of the year
I read the original post several times and still have no idea what's going on.
They will have to figure out how to package and ship the two bottles of fonseca which I will be leaving on my front porch...

Re: Online wine retailers
Agree completely Roy. This gets to the whole issue of critics who publish scores on release and only sporadically follow up with additional notes. The old wine critic system is geared toward the buzz of new vintage releases, and that is one of the old system's huge problems. This is also why certain...

Unusual Taylor at Auction
In the current Wallys internet auction, Lot #154 Taylor Special Quinta 1947 might be of interest to certain FTLOP'ers. No idea what it is.

Re: Big news in the wine world and critics
I admit I don't follow any critics (present company excepted) and have barely heard of most of these people...but in my experience bigger is almost never better in most aspects of the wine world.

1985 Graham Vintage Port
Superb showing as previously. Fresh and youthful, profound, with tame enough spirit after 12 hours in the decanter. Maybe my favorite Graham's, a terrific value, to hold for decades. 95 pts.
