Re: Differences in various bottlings of 1952 Dalva Golden White Port
Roy, Andy and David, Charlie and I still have our 1952 Dalva Golden White Port that we purchased during the 2009 Harvest Tour. I'm not sure of the bottling date, but if anyone comes to the Houston area, we will be happy to open and share. I also just started a wine travel blog, and posted about the ...

Re: Wine Spectator top 100...did any Portuguese wines make the list again this year?
Andy, with a quick glance, two made the list - No. 48 and No. 88. Here's the complete top 100: 1 Columbia Crest Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley Reserve 2005 95 $27 Ripe in flavor, with a vivid array of black currant, blackberry, violet, black tea and black pepper aromas and flavors that zoom thro...

Re: Dominic Symington in Houston
Eric,
Surprisingly, the "no need to decant the 2007's" comment was made by Bear Dalton, the long-time wine buyer for Spec's in Houston, and a self-proclaimed lover of ports. Spec's is one of the largest retailers in the US.

Re: Dominic Symington in Houston
As a follow up to my earlier post (and as Andy knows), with my new-found port knowledge, I asked if the ports had been decanted. I was told that the older ports had been (but not sure for how long). I was then told that the 2007's were not decanted "because they had just been bottled, so there ...

Dominic Symington in Houston
Thanks to the heads up from Roy, Charlie and I attended the Symington Estates Port tasting in Houston. The weather delayed Dominic Symington for nearly an hour, but once he arrived, Dominic was very informative, enthusiastic and charming. After the tasting, we introduced ourselves and mentioned that...

Re: Dominic Symington visits other cities in the USA this week!
Roy,
Thanks for the heads up on Dominic visiting Houston. I just booked Charlie and I for the tasting tomorrow, so we will get to meet Dominic, and drink even more port than I ever imagined us ever drinking in our lifetimes!

I'd like to see a "Donate Your Port" feature where users could ship selected bottles of their best Ports to the :ftlop: technical staff to consume. [yahoo.gif] You are my new best friend for that rec [friends.gif] [notworthy.gif] Andy, Since the Taylor 20 year old Tawny (bottled in 1990) ...

I would be disappointed to see the Douro wine section disappear. It's been very helpful.

Re: Taylor 20 year old Tawny Port -- bottled in 1990
Roy, As you know, we were port novices prior to the 2009 Port Harvest Tour. Having learned so much on the Tour, the first thing we did when we got home was to check the bottling dates of the few ports we had in our inventory. With our newly acquired knowledge, we didn't expect much from this 1990 bo...

20 year old Tawny Port by Taylor Fladgate -- bottled in 1990
Andy suggested I post this tasting note that I sent him over the weekend, so here goes: Charlie and I opened our Taylor 20 year old tawny last night. This tawny was bottled in 1990. We must have bought it in the early 1990's, and it's been sitting in our cellar since. This tawny was pretty bad. The ...
