Re: Barros 2005 late bottled vintage port
I think it was filtered - I never noticed anything indicating different. and it doesnt say on the bottle that it is unfiltered. However it says on the back on the bottle that "port is a natural wine thus subject to throw a deposit when ageing".

Re: Barros 2005 late bottled vintage port
I tasted this directly after opening, and during maybe the three or four following hours. The note i wrote down comes from that whole time-window. Also i tasted from what was left in bottle the following day. I cant say i noticed much difference at all, not from three hours of air, and not from a wh...

Re: 2005 Fonseca Quinta do Panascal Vintage Port
Cool, do i get a prize? Yes i noticed quite a bit, in such way that it was closed and obviously a waste not to let it get some air. But i must say, half a year ago i would not have recognised that tightness as the wine being closed. I didn't even know a wine could be open or closed. That and ...

2005 Fonseca Quinta do Panascal Vintage Port
Tasted on june 24 2010 After a glass or two of pop-and-pour i gave this wine three days of air just resting in bottle. Very dark purple. Nose of dark, blue fruit. Palate of blackberries and some black currant, tasty sweetness of the kind i like (and perhaps have learned to refer to as a graham-like ...

Re: Port Wine Lovers' Purchasing Behaviour
I would gladly have done the survey if it was relevant for someone whose purchasing behaviour consist merely of walking in to the monopoly-store. Sure, i could buy online, but the only relatively not-so-complicated way to do that is with the help from that same monopoly-store  However, i'm not...

20 Year Old Tawny Port by Fonseca
Bottled in 2008. Opened 10 mars 2010, tasted over a weeks time (with help from preserving C02-gas). Did not take many notes during that time, so this taste note feels a bit incomplete. Great nose, big and promising. Very good palate, with complexity and age. Cherry, plums, figs, a bit distracting sp...

10 Year Old Tawny Port by Fonseca
bottled in 2010. Nose of dark dried fruit, a bit spirit, caramel and cherry. A very sweet palate, some spirit, dark dried fruit (cherry, plum), raisins, roasted nuts. A touch of smoke or chocolate. Medium light body, medium length. I liked it and it reminded me a bit of fonsecas 20 YOT, of course no...

10 Year Old Tawny Port by Quinta do Noval
Bottled in 2009. Reddish-brown colour. Very nice on the nose, very promising; dried fruit and caramel. Palate of caramel, cherry and walnuts. A bit much heat and a medium-short finish drags it down.

Re: How often do you drink port?
Today I am going to open half a bottle of Vista Alegre 30 YOT, together with my brother who had his 30th b-day two days ago.
I feel like I am the one having my birthday celebration
This will be my very first opened bottle of port, or any wine, of such high-class potential.

A glass or two most days in a week, and then I typically, but far from always, wait 4-7 days until I open another bottle.

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?
The thought of ageing tawnies interests me, so this raises the question: do i buy more of the over 40 year old (the only one of these two ports left in stock) solely for the purpose to storage it for the future.. If you can get a good price on them, and you think you'll have the patience to wait, t...

Re: Cellar values
Besides the public factor, are you willing to admit to your wife or significant other what your collection is worth? [shok.gif] Hehe, true that  I've been thinking about a related topic though, are you insured, and what kind of insurance is appropriate for wine? Also, have anyone ever seen hi...
