Re: 1983 Gould Campbell VP

Day 3, and it's still holding up. Never had that experience with a VP. Brilliant. :D

1983 Gould Campbell Vintage Port

Tasted on 2011/01/26-27 Both me and this wine was born this year. Had this for my birthday. No signs of leakage, and the bottle looks brand new and very well stored. Wine seems to be in as perfect condition as possible. Very nice deep brownish red color on this one. Even without decanting, this is ...

Re: What have you opened this week?

Just popped a 1983 Gould Campbell VP. This one doesn't even need decanting... wow! Epic nose, and really a treat for the palate.

TN will come later.

Re: 1985 Smith Woodhouse Vintage port

Thanks for the TN. I saw a few of these bottles and almost got one myself, but I had to choose between many great VP's. Maybe I should see if there are some left. :-)

The best and only one I've ever had was a Ramos Pinto 30 y.o. I think that might have been the best drink I've ever had. One sip, and it was impossible to stop drinking. You know what happened next. :winebath:

Try new types of Port. Still need to try 20 and 40 y.o. tawnies, colheitas, white port, garrafeira, crusted, etc etc..

Re: 1970 Quinta do Noval VP

That's what I was thinking too, but it blew off, so I dismissed that thought. Could that have been the case? It was delicious after a few hours in the decanter.

I don't know what a corked wine smells like.

1970 Quinta do Noval Vintage Port

tasted 2010/12/24 My oldest VP so far. The bottle might not have been properly stored, because of heavy leakage, and the cork was soaked all the way through. Was a bit worried that this wine could be damaged. Lots of thick nasty sediment, which always warms my heart. Medium deep burgundy color, very...

Re: LBV: Does anyone disagree?

Day two is always the best in my experience. I find LBV's very closed and spirity when not decanted.

Thanks for the info, gents! :D

The comes the question; is it worth it? If only for the sake of drinking an ancient wine? The oldest I've had is from 1980

Re: 1944 Real Companhia Vinicola do Norte Colheita?

I don't remember the bottling date, but it sure was a old and dusty bottle. But looks in good shape, at least. I'm not ready to pay that kind of money for a bottle I know nothing about. A bit risky.

Btw Rune, are you the SOAB who bought all the 1965 Malvedos??

2005 Graham LBV Port

Tasted around November 5, 2010. Can't really remember. TN from memory: I've had the 2003 quite a few times, as it is a cheap and enjoyable LBV. Now it has been replaced by the 2005 in Norwegian stores, and offers quite an upgrade, so to speak. To me this was a bit drier, better acidity, not that muc...

1944 Real Companhia Vinicola do Norte Colheita?

I found this wine in a local store, and I've tried searching for info, but the employees know nothing, and the internet doesn't offer much help. Have any of you heard of this one? Apart from a few Madeiras, this has to be the oldest wine available in the country. I almost bought one, but I'd like to...

Re: fine cheese

Blue cheese and a pretty dry LBV is never wrong in my book. :D
And yes, pairing wine and cheese can be tough, some cheeses are just too powerful, even for Port. I guess it depends on what you like, as everything else.

Re: 13 year old music prodigy

He's got a good voice. If he keeps going, he might do great. It's going to change a lot over the next few years, but hopefully he'll mature like good Port.
Oh, and it's nice to see someone actually play an instrument, in addition to singing good. It's getting rare these days.
