A 30 year old table wine?

Yep, last night I opened a bottle of 1994 Quinta do Passadouro. This is not a bottle one finds anymore and I wish I had a case of it. Decanted for 45 minutes, when pouring into the decanter I was ASTOUNDED by the nearly purplish tinge to this juice. Ink well and baby VP color fully opaque. WHAT? Yes...

A 2004 Douro beauty

Saturday night, another of the 2 dozen 2004 Quinta de la Rosa Reserva (tinto) bottles I bought last winter. Only one has been flawed and all the rest have showed like this one. As soon as I opened this to decant it, I knew it would be another excellent bottle. They still are really dark garnet and t...

1998 Miles Tinta Negra

Elizabeth's daughter and her best friend joined Elizabeth and I for dinner at Taberninha do Manel. After some great table wines, I opened a bottle from Mariana's birth year. It was quite the youngster, she's not turned 26 years old yet, (the age at which I first drank Port wine). This Tinta Negra wa...

I completely agree and you don't have to travel in the back of a truck to get to see the views at DR. [shrug.gif]

Quinta do Crasto.

Breaking news. Sorry, I have yet to see this in English as of yet. But you can always use a translator:

Re: 2024 Port Harvest Officially Underway

Well Fred, 2017 was not such an even vintage. If memory serves me ... at after 2 am ... 2017 was the earliest harvest in written history, IIRC! So, I'd suggest tempering the comment and just saying, it may turn out to the be best vintage for Port (White, Tawny, Ruby and maybe even Vintage) in at lea...

Re: 2024 Beneficio

I remember what happened in 2011 from the decrease that took place from 2010. 15k pipe decrease caused riots in Regua at the HQ of the IVDP. People were in the streets, many were growers and literally the mob turned violent. Many arrests took place. Rocks were thrown through the windows of the IVDP ...

Re: What have you opened this week?

1985 Vista Alegre Colheita - bottled 2024. After having this on "Glenn's Tour" I bought several. As impressive as it was in Douro. A great replacement for the 1985 Dalva which I've always loved and is only found with bottlings of yesteryear. This may even exceed that great one, when it was...

Re: 2024 Port Harvest Officially Underway

I have waited to post, because I did not want to jinx things, but we are deep enough into picking, that I believe it is safe. From several sources in all three sub-regions of Douro, this vindima is looking to be one of the finest in quite a few years. Right now, temps during the days have been in th...

Re: Your Port collection ... what is the organization like?

As my Port collection (and that of my daughter) are in temp controlled storage, I disagree with commentary above that bottles are MORE prone to problems with exposure to light than cool temps. When I taste from certainly people's cellars that only turn on light when they are inside, with passive sto...

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

Hi Will H. Late to the party to welcome you to the Forum! [cheers.gif] In addition to stocking up on the 1977 Vintage, which occasionally has been problematic due to faulty corks, when spot on bottles are found .. this vintage can produce some great bottles. Have you found any Gould Campell or Smith...

Re: 2024 Beneficio

Having been in discussion about the 2024 Beneficio topic with more than a handful of producers so far, (in mid-late July) some producers are very worried. Others are angry as they've related that this is going to create a worsening economic situation across the Douro region compared to the decrease ...

Re: What have you opened this week?

Currently in WA State, at a great restaurant ... I shared a 2002 Andresen VP last night and beside it was tasted alongside my friends' 1967 Kopke Colheita. Both shined, and my scores were 1 point apart. Both were wonderful. I loved that the 2002, with 6 total hours of decanting, showed even better t...

Re: Graham launches Quinta do Tua VV VP 2022

In my "wine room" deciding which 12 to pack to bring to the USA, I am staring at this bottle of Graham's Tua VP and looking forward to my 2022 tastings coming up when cooler weather prevails. I have not had a Tua labeled bottle in the past, at least that I can recall. I have not read this ...

Re: What have you opened this week?

2005 Quinta do Crasto Colheita - the 3rd Colheita they've released. This one bottled a few months ago in 2024. The 1997 was a great success and 2003, was also very good. This was opened two days ago and it was certainly a welcome "break fast" in terms of cleaning my liver for a few weeks. ...

Re: What have you opened this week?

I had that 2000 for the first time, shortly after it was released and while staying at their property, the first of three times. That VP was by far the best they had produced at that point and it was a stand alone excellent Port. The others were all good, but nothing was exceptional, (93 pts. IIRC) ...
