Re: What is the BEST Port you have consumed in 2020

A little late to the table, but Vic and I drank more port in 2020 than any previous year, and that was without the usual Port Harvest 2 tour in fall. This list is chronological. Only ports that scored 94 or above are listed. There are too many in the 91-93 point range to post. Most of these were ser...

Re: Offline in the Los Angeles area January 10-11, 2020

I figured out what Vic and I are going to bring! For Friday night, I figure let's go for two 1974 Colheitas to jump on that theme. A Barao de Vilar and a Barros Special Edition.

For Saturday, I am going to play on Stewart's Krohn and bring in a 1967 Krohn VP and a 1968 Krohn Colheita!

Re: Porto again very soon. and nothing planned yet! (live report :-) )

It is getting harder and harder to put together a couple of good tastings in Porto without knowing somebody and arranging for something in private. It is a good thing you never made it to Augustus, since they are basically the same family and what I feel are the exact same wines, even though they de...

Re: 2016 Vintage Declarations

I talked with Ana Rato from Ramos Pinto at an event in Seattle and she told me that Ramos Pinto will NOT be declaring a 2016 VP. When I asked about 2017, she smiled a big smile, but would make no comment.

Re: What was the TOP Port you consumed in 2017?

As I was around for quite a few of those, my questions are: a. Vintage Ports - Given the 1994 Quinta do Vesuvio was at the bottom of your Top 5 ... saying a TON ... what was it about the 2000 Meao that you liked better? b. Tawny Ports - I remember what you gave the 1937 Kopke and 1952 Kopke, so why...

Vic and I had a 1978 Kopke Colheita bottled in 2016. It was a lot thinner than I expected, though pleasant.

Re: What was the TOP Port you consumed in 2017?

Looking through my notes, I had quite a few really nice ports. 60 different bottles scored 94 points or higher. 2017 wasn't a killer year for vintage ports for me after 2016 has some mind blowing bottles, especially from 1966. You had to score 95 points to make my Top 5 VP list. Now tawny ports, not...

Douro Boys 2017 Video

Wine Spectator recently sent out a link to a great video produced by the Douro Boys about white and red table wines, and ports in the Douro. A lot of our favorites are represented: Crasto, Vale Meao, Vallado, Nieeport, Vale dela Maria, and others. Worth the 10 minutes to watch! http://www.douroboys....

Re: Avoid the Trap

Thanks for the thoughts, Lisa. Mine exactly, I can see. However, with the amount of wine that I have and the fact that due to my medical condition my wife will almost certainly outlive the drinking up of my bucket list, estate planning does become something of a concern, unless I want to let many d...

Re: Avoid the Trap

John: Vic and I follow a very similar methodology when it comes to how many bottles of wine we purchase. We like to have around 7 years of age minimum on our Washington and Oregon wines (a bit less for whites). We drink about 400 bottles a year including port and dessert wines. So if we want our cel...

Re: New port wine brand has recently been launched – Blackett

Hey y'all: Just got back from Port Harvest Tour 2 and we got to taste these at the Quinta. Turns out that the folks behind Brunheda are responsible in part for these wines. Not exactly sure what the exact relationship is but we tasted them and bought them from Brunheda while we were there. I ended u...

I have the Fonseca rated a point higher than the Taylor when we did the 1994 horizontal tasting a few years back. -Lisa Just curious.... is that enough info for you to say you like one over the other?? If tasted side by side, for me that would be enough. But if not side by side, I usually need a 2-...
