Re: 2003 Taylor Fladgate LBV Port
I opened this on Tuesday and enjoyed a glass and had another taste last night. First night the alcohol was noticeable and it was a bit tart on the finish. Other than that is had a nice nose of anise and dark fruits. My 2nd taste on it's 3rd day of being opened was much better. Seemed to be much more...

Re: What do you do with your Port ...
Buy another wine fridge is you don't have a walk in cellar. If you have a walk in cellar, buy more racks if you have space. If neither option works, start drinking more!! Fridge would work short term for some bottles that are not real old and that you plan on drinking soon. And there is always off-s...

Re: Rare Wine Company - Latest Newsletter
Gary, Not sure how I like my Madeira. I had a bottle from the 1800's about 10 years ago and loved it and my next bottle after than was a Leacock Rainwater (about a month ago), which I also enjoyed. What are the differences between the 2 1978's offered? The 30 yr sounded tempting as well. Might grab ...

Re: 2003 Taylor Fladgate LBV Port
Glenn,
I like your style.
With lows between 11 and -16 the next 5 nights, port will fit the bill as the perfect after dinner drink by the fire.
Cheers,
Jeff

Re: 2003 Taylor Fladgate LBV Port
I just picked up a bottle of this after recently enjoying a 2003 DOW LBV.
Should I just pop and pour and follow it for how ever long the bottle lasts (How long will it last once open)? Or would this benefit from a decant and be best consumed on the 1st day?

Rare Wine Company - Latest Newsletter
In the latest newsletter from the Rare Wine Company, they had a couple 1978's, a 30 year old, and two younger Madeira's.
Does anyone have notes or thoughts on these?
1978 is wife's birth year, so thought it would be fun to grab one of those.

Re: How long will a open bottle last?
Everyone, thanks for the tips. Just finished off the 2003 DOW LBV this weekend and it had been opened for over a week and seemed to still be going strong. Will be picking up some more LBV's and possibly a vintage Port soon and will do some more experimenting.

How long will a open bottle last?
How long will an open bottle or port or madeira last? Do LBV's and Vintage ports last the same amount of time? What about a younger bottle vs an older bottle? Any general tips would be appreciated as I start to explore. Do I open with a group and drink over the course of a night, or do I open myself...

2003 DOW LBV Port
Picked up my first port in years. For the background in my choices; http://fortheloveofport.com/ftlopforum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=11742 Popped and poured and it enjoyable. Grapey and a bit sweet, although seemed pretty balance on the palate. Long lingering finish that seemed slightly acidic and hot...

Re: Where to start?
Thanks guys.
Looks like I will have to stick with the LBV's then. The other Ports are fairly expensive compared to what i've seen online.

Re: Where to start?
Picked up the DOW LBV yesterday for $20. Next bottle with be the Taylor Fladgate 2003 for abut $24. Question for everyone about storage. All the wines are on a side shelf in the store and as such are stored standing up. How much of an issue will this be with the older bottles? Also, the wins are not...

My experience is very limited, 1977 Grahams Vintage. Had quite a bit of this back in 1999 when I lived in Vegas for 6 weeks!

Re: Where to start?
Eric, Prices tend to be a little higher up here in North Dakota, but shipping season is now officially over until March. I plan to hit up wine-searcher for avg prices and then hit the store. If they are reasonably priced I'll pick up a couple bottles. How would you rank the LBV's on the list? I'll p...

Where to start?
For someone that knows they like port (1977 Graham's got me started) and Maderia (a bottle from the 1800's got me started), but has not tried many different bottles, what would be the best way to get started? I would love to pick up a few different bottles (or most likely half bottles) to start my c...

Re: Grahams Port Tasting 1963 - 2007
Roy,
I saw that post and will be on the look out for upcoming good deals. I'll also have a few questions as I'm researching what I want to start buying and will be looking for tips from the pro's here!
Cheers,
Jeff

Re: Grahams Port Tasting 1963 - 2007
First Vintage Port I ever had was a Grahams 1977. That was about 12 years ago and it was stunning then. I need to start filling the cellar with a few more ports as my lone bottle of2000 Taylor LBV will disappear soon with the holidays.

Re: Maderia Gift
I really enjoyed the Leacock as well and now I'm on the hunt to learn and try more. Unfortunately not much is available locally and the shipping season is just about closed up here. Jeff: Broadbent 10 is the benchmark for under $50 Madeira in my opinion. Blandy's Alvada is great too, but comes in 5...

Re: Maderia Gift
Roy, Thanks for the thoughts. I ended up ordering the gift set as I thought it might be something fun for them. I need to learn more about Maderia. My first experience was about 10 years ago at Le Cirque at the Bellagio. My wife and I were there for dinner and I asked for a 77 Grahams Vintage Port. ...
