2003 Warre Vintage Port

Only the slightest of bricking at this stage. There is quite a spicy aroma with some cinnamon and white pepper, aniseed and a hint of bacon. It's quite viscous on the tongue with some blueberry jam, white pepper and cinnamon again, along with black tea. This was consumed over 4 days and it took unti...

1 x 1977 Dow Vintage Port 375 ml 4 x 1997 Dow Vintage Port 1 x 1970 Grahams Vintage Port 375 ml 3 x 1985 Grahams Vintage Port All at auction. I did ok with the pricing on these too. Re: What is the BEST Port you have consumed in 2020

My Port consumption was pretty low this year. I didn't have very many bottles at home and the pandemic resulted in a pretty hard lockdown here in Melbourne where we weren't allowed to be going further than about 5km from our homes. My storage locker is on the other side of town, so the end result wa...

Re: 1998 Grahams Quinta Dos Malvedos Vintage Port

I don't own many 98s, but I'll have a few Quinta de Vargellas as well as the Malvedos. I'll have to dig one of those out and see how it is going, at least when lockdown is eased a bit and I am allowed to travel to the other side of the city where they are stored

1998 Grahams Quinta Dos Malvedos Vintage Port

Decanted for about 8 hours Just starting to show signs of age in the colour. Cassia bark, cinnamon raspberry jam on the nose Nice balance on the palate. Quite fresh without being overtly minty. Blueberry syrup with a dusting of cinnamon and vanilla. Fine tannins that don't make their presence known ...

Great Idea, and I would have loved to join but the timezones and a busy work week made it tricky - It would have been 6am Monday morning for me. If you had been a week later I might have made it due to a public holiday :D

Re: How Much is "A lot of Port"?

My port cellar isn't huge - I'm sitting at around 160 currently, plus another 60 or so " port style" red fortifieds. Throw in some muscat and tokay/topaque and that makes a bit over 25% of what I have being fortified. I haven't had much need to keep a lot of muscats and tokays in stock sin...

Re: Happy Easter

I drank a 1994 Smith Woodhoouse Vintage port over 4 nights - Not so good for the first couple, but pretty nice on day 3 and 4 The rest of my drinking was local - some beers (except for a coconut imperial stout from Indiana), an 11 year old pinot noir from the Mornington Peninsula (which is where I a...

1994 Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port

There was a distinct whiff of hazelnut on opening along with a range of spices - white pepper, cardamon, cinnamon as well as a sweet blueberry jam aroma. That was all there on the palate too, with some blackberry as well. More drinkable than expected at this stage. 8 hours on it had become a bit mor...

Re: Rating SQVP vs fully declared

As Moses said, you judge a port on it's merits. If you take the literal definition of what it means to be a Single Quinta Port, there are some that more than hold their own. Quinta do Noval and indeed the Nacional are both Single Quinta ports if you are using the literal definition. Many, if not mos...

Re: Can I ask for your help, please

Well I've gone back to have another look (so I guess asking us is one way to come back for multiple visits  ) and 2 more things come to mind.. 1) More Photos 2) Testamonials With the Photos, Moses mentioned food and wine, but I'd add plenty of scenery too, as the vistas are a big selling point ...

Re: Can I ask for your help, please

I think it would be great to show the past itineraries with a bit of detail, for each of the tours, which would help demonstrate that the experience is different each year. Including the people that hosted the groups and lead tastings would be good as it shows that in most instances it is owners, wi...

Re: Greatest Malvedos?

I'll be interested to see how the 01s and 04s progress, as both vintages looked very good in a lineup we tried on the Port harvest tour back in 2011 that included some excellent generally declared Grahams VPs. Still early days for them yet but I remember the 04 in particular had excellent structure.

Re: ADRIAN BRIDGE

Hi Adrian, A second question from me It seemed that the start of a boom in tourism in Portugal and Porto in particular coincided with the success and release of the 2011 vintage ports. At least, for most of us posting here, it probably seemed that way. I'd imagine that with the hotels as well as the...

Re: ADRIAN BRIDGE

Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions Adrian. My first question is around declarations My understanding was that 2015 was a pretty decent vintage, and with 2016 and 2017 being generally declared, How close was 2015 to being declared by any of the producers in your portfolio and do you ...

Re: The definitive book on Vintage Port is now on sale

Merry Christmas all! My copy arrived in good condition on Christmas eve. I've had a quick flick through but am looking forward to sitting down and having a good read now that my family commitments have finished for the day. Alas this won't be with a glass of port as I haven't been home for about a d...

Re: Rutherglen Liquor Muscats

I found a lower-end bottle of Chambers Rosewood last month while in up-state NY. Not overly complex but still enjoyable. Today I picked up a Cambell's Merchant Prince at a local shop here in MA. First pour is quite dark, thick, rich. Wow. I'm going to let it open up a little before having more. Plu...

Re: Rutherglen Liquor Muscats

Thanks Paul. I'm still working on visiting. Maybe in August. I'll let you know! Eric The Australian Dollar is dropping at the moment so that might work on your favour! Having said that, they tax alcohol pretty heavily here so anything you know you can buy in the US probably should be bought there. ...

Somebody should have given me a prod to answer this one [cheers.gif] I hadn't checked in to this section for a while and I have answered Eric's question about visiting elsewhere. If anybody else needs any info about visiting or has any specific questions, hit me up and I'll tell you what I know. I a...
