Re: Bottle information needed

1. Do not intermix Real Companhia Velha with Real Companhia Vínicola do Norte de Portugal, these are 2 different companies. 2. the pictured bottle (the glass) is from Real Companhia Vínicola do Norte de Portugal 3. in former times (speaking 30iers, 40ies and 50ies) there was a MAJOR shortage of glas...

Re: perceptions of very old Port vintages

An interesting topic Glenn, So many things I'd like to say as well. I'll try to keep it short and concise. It is really hard to compare what will happen with Ports produced nowadays vs those we have been lucky enough to sample from the 30's 40's. A few facts to consider -Back in the days, Vintage w...

Re: TN: 1964 Justino's Madeira Boal

unfortunately I only have 115 bottles of this left... Let’s assume that you bought 120 bottles at the Christie’s sale in December 2021 and took delivery in January 2022. That means you’ve had the bottles for 3 years and you’ve drunk 5 bottles. You had better be careful! Start planning now. You will...

Re: What Madeira Have You Opened This Week?

1870 Adega Exportadora da Vinhos Madeira Malmsey. I was not expecting much. Not familar with the producer. But it is excellent. Eric, are you sure it was "Adega Exportadora da Vinhos" and not "Companhia Regional de Exportacão de Vinhos Da Madeira"? The first one is a Borges affi...

Re: 1950 Fajã dos Padres Vineyard Terrantez

For those interested, this was RWC's original advertisement: "The Jesuits’ Gift Madeira’s Most Famous Vineyard Yields a Beautiful Terrantez For more than 400 years, wine lovers have idolized the Fajã dos Padres—a spit of volcanic, vine-growing earth that juts into the sea from Madeira’s south c...

Re: It is that time again ... what was your TOP Madeira consumed in 2024?

While I have had 50,60, 80 and one 100 year old Aguardente, I rarely drink them anymore. Most were either in Douro, or a couple here in Porto and Gaia, but maybe the best one I've ever had was up in the Vinho Verde region. They can be great, for sure. How was the 1928 from Madeira better/different,...

Massandra Madeiras

Now to something completely different. From the Massandra Collection there were some "Madeira"-style wines I'd like to mention. The following is an excerpt from the catalogue and I wonder if anyone tasted any of those; I for one have quite some Massandra bottles, but none of the Madeiras. ...

Re: What is the single best Madeira "bargain" you've encountered?

Probably the ancient Borges wines (1720, 1730, 1760, 1780 et al). NOT because they were CHEAP, simply due to the fact that I will not have a future possibility to ever again acquire those, be it because of value or due to their scarcity (we might talk of single digit numbers here).
