I had only one tasting with US port type wine. It was the 1990 merlot port from Pindor vineyard in Long Island, N-Y. I bought two half bottles at the vineyard when I visited with my brother. We opened one about four years ago and It was not bad at all. As far as I can remember, it was still in good ...

I also would love to travel with you people on the harvest tour, one day it will happen.

In my dreams I am able to buy a house in the Douro and have the time to visit one and every port house and taste their ports. That would be incredible. Dreaming doesnt cost anything. Thats nice.

Most of the time I will decant unfiltered LBV's, depending if I am at home or visiting friends. I did not try to decant filtered port yet.
Todd, I like your experiment idea, looking forward to your results, in the name of science of course.

For me about the third of my cellar is port, about 100 bottles of port.
50% of those are vintages, 25% are LBV's and the rest mainly tawny's, some colheitas and regular everyday port.

I guess the port wine industry is like other industry, globalization gets every where. But for me, wilthout condenming larger producer like Sogrape or others, I also like to encourage smaller producer to make wine that represent their ''terroir'', their backyard, and that they make wine (port) that ...

This is an excellent idea. :D I always wanted to try port with a full meal, I have heard about it, read about it, but never tried it, yet ! Recipes and ideas would be the start of new tasting sensations I am sure. I have made port sauce to go with meat but no more than that. I sup port the idea.

Unfortunately I have not tasted enough of the great port shippers yet to judge on their quality, I am counting on this forum, articles, books, etc to evaluate port. But, if I must judge from what I tasted so far, I would go with Warre's. The general quality of their products are excellent, they prod...

For me it all started in a wine tasting course in 1990(I think). The last evening we tasted the Fonseca Bin 27 port. It was tasteful and I liked it very much. Before that the only thing I knew about port(so I though)was the ''Canadian port'' served at military mess dinners for the toasts in the midd...

I like the idea of white port tasting. It is summer time and it would be an op port tunity to expand our sphere of tasting and for some to discover a new wine. I have tasted 4 or 5 white ports. I like the Offley Cachucha, excellent ! We have a good selection of white port here in Quebec ( about 20),...

Tasting groups

I started my knowledge of wine by following a tasting course back in 1989 with a tasting group in my region. I have been a member for 6 or 7 years attending 2 to 3 events per year, out of about 10 to 12 tastings per year for the group. Now the tasting group have more than 200 members (in my region )...
