Would an x-mas tour of Villa Nova de Gaia be possible despite being out of season?

Even though it would be out of season would there be things connected to the Port industry that would be open that time of year?

Re: Garrafeira Ports (sharing an article I saved)

With the induction of Peter Skov and Ivan Madsen, 2 Danish blokes into the Confraria do Vinho do Porto just a few days ago in Porto. Peter actually managed to gather all the Niepoort garrafeira bottles once more for a full tasting during these days in Porto. Besides a few of their Danish friends jo...

Re: Garrafeira Ports (sharing an article I saved)

If memory serves, WAY back in the day quite a few shippers/producers made these types of Port. I've seen several over the years in producers cellars. Though usually it's just one or two older ones that someone looks like they experimented with and they are still there. Probably because no one knows...

Re: Garrafeira Ports (sharing an article I saved)

Hi, yup - the text is from the FTLOP web=page...: http://www.fortheloveofport.com/faqs/ I know from one other port producer that might one day launch also a garrafeira port... At least I was sitting in his car and it was loaded with beautiful demijohns... :) As these babies take a long time to matu...

Garrafeira Ports (sharing an article I saved)

The contents of this article are most likely common knowledge to those who know a lot about Port-but since it describes perhaps the rarest style of Port. I just wanted to share this description I had found and saved describing Garrafeira Port. It is not my article and I have had it for some time and...

PHT 1 2016

To say that the PHT1 2016 excursion was great would be an understatement. The wines and estates were all specially chosen and the meals were upper echelon gourmet.

Re: Single Quinta Vintage Port (SQVP) versus "classic"

Reading this ten years later there is probably no correct answer because their are too many variables. It seems like Noval is in a class of it's own in two ways-the first being that it always produces single quinta ports and the second being that the 1931 is close to being a household word to this d...

Port and Champagne are synonymous with celebrations in Britain

Just saying-some of the older capsules around the neck of the bottle are so detailed and colorful, not to mention the ones that were done in wax.

Re: A Vintage Port Question

As Tom said, there isn't a simple answer and any answer you get will be heavily biased. But I suppose the short answer is no, there is not a significant quality difference between Ports from the Douro Superior and ports from the Cima Corgo, provided we're talking about similar quality Quintas from ...

Re: A Vintage Port Question

And I think an argument I've heard is that while the Douro Superior might generally be inferior, some of the quintas there are so large that they can take advantage of microclimates and be more selective in their picking; so the net result is a wine just as good as what you might get from a smaller...
