Re: Souza Guedes ancient port.

The founder of this house was Miguel de Souza Guedes in 1851. The name was later Souza Guedes & Irmao and is known since 1909. Miguel de Souza Guedes bought Quinta de Seixo during the 1870s and sold the quinta to Ferreira in 1979. He also bought Quinta das Carvalhas in 1880 and it was not until ...

Re: Top 10 Port Vintages of the 20th Century

The article is quite superficial and simply seems to be a collection of random thoughts of a few in the trade. It isn't really a serious sattempt to identify the best vintages of the century, more like an attempt to pick out one or two per decade. The fact that 1975 is included in the other vintage...

Re: What is the OLDEST Colheita in your collection?

Unfortunately it is bottle in Denmark and bought long ago. A Danish Wine merchant had bottled it. But!! I found in my cellar then just beside that bottle ano...

Re: Gilbeys Vintage Port - Help

Hi Roy! It was quite old and a bit tired. My problem is that I have had the 1896 and I have 1900 in my cellar. I have been able to buy 1890 but it was too expensive. On no of these bottles there have been a label Just the metal over the cork are saying Gilbey and the year of the vintage. Have you se...

Gilbeys Vintage Port - Help

Do anyone know which house Glibey's bottled between 1890-and 1900? They opened up in London 1852 and I have a note that they have some connection with Smith Woodhouse at that time and Croft was acquired in 1911. Have just drank their 1896 and I have their 1900 in my cellar. Kind Regards Sten - Malmö...

Re: What have you opened this week?

... In portugese was siad: 'This bottle isa not allowed to sell'. Welcome Sten. I'm guess that vintage wasn't registered with the IVP/IVDP at the time, so it can't be sold as what it is labeled. All the more interesting. Yes I did know that when I bourgt the bottle but I can not read Portugese so I...

Re: What have you opened this week?

Elviro Garcia Vintage 1896 This one sounds familiar. I'd have to check my notes but I think I had this at the Old & Odd tasting in NYC a few years ago. If it is the same as the bottle I am thinking of, it was very good! Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk Good memory Glenn! You're right. A...

Re: What have you opened this week?

Eastern means that the whole family were at home so I took 2 bottles which we have not had before. Elviro Garcia Vintage 1896 and Sandeman Vintage 1972. It was interesting to read on the Sandeman Label. In portugese was siad: 'This bottle isa not allowed to sell'.
