2000 Taylor Fladgate LBV Port

Came back to my 2000LBV two days after opening it. Very odd. There seems to be almost no nose to it. All I can smell is alchohol, with a very slight hint of fruit, but almost none. Very different than when it was first opened. On first sip, it was very hot, very strong alcohol flavor, and little els...

2000 Taylor Fladgate LBV Port

This is my first tasting note. It is also my first time trying the Taylor 2000 LBV. The color is a very dark ruby or garnet color, all the way to the edge of the glass. It smells plesently slightly sweet, like a blackberry jam, and of something spicy. It has a fairly strong fruit taste to it, with m...

Has anyone done a Port Wine and Glass tasting?

Last night I got the opportunity to do an amazing and educational wine and glass tasting. The experiment was to taste 4 different wines (Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet), across 5 different Ridel glasses (Cabernet glass, Chardonnay glass, Pinot Noir glass, Riesling glass, and a bad ...

1986 Smith Woodhouse Colheita Port

1986 Smith Woodhouse Colheita: Color is brick red and crystal clear, turning slightly yellow on the edges. The nose is plesently strong, smelling of honey, orange and wallnuts. The flavor is also strong, but not of ancohol...it is not very hot at all. It is also very short on the tongue after you sw...

Off subject, but I just noticed the quote after your signature. Did you learn it first hand?

THis sounds like an interesting idea. It also sounds like something that would take a lot of man hours, complete dedication, and a fair amount of capital to pull off. The amount of work and dedication to successfully put to gether this type of venture smells more like an investment than a hobby. Peo...

2000 C. da Silva "Presidential LBV

This seemed like a good deal, but I though I'd throw it out to you all just to make sure. K&L Wines has 2000 C. da Silva "Presidential LBV for $7.99 for a 750ml (http://www.klwines.com/product.asp?sku=1026471) This seems like a good deal, but I've never had this LBV. Is this LBV worth that ...

I just got back from a 3 week vacation in Japan, and got to try a Taylor 20 tawny, and a LBV (dont remember the year or producer...it was after MANY glasses of saki). I never thought I'd see any kind of port over in Japan.

John C. Have you been to the Spanish Table? They have had some Niepoort Colheitas there too. Did you have the '63 Kopke from Redmond Fine Wine and Cigars or at the Purple Cafe & Wine Bar in Kirkland? I will be arranging a wine dinner offline in early 2007 with a few bottles of Colheita. Get one...

* Do you see many of them on the shelves or do you really have to shop for them? Living in Seattle, I see a ton of Kopka and Rocha Colheita at most shops that carry ports. The only other brand I've seen here is Royal Oporto, but only at one shop. If I want to try any thing else, I have to order it....

Not to be picky, but from how I understand it, only vineyards in Portugal can use the term porto or oporto, but any vineyard in the world can use the term port. So, since this is the "Port Forum" and not the “Oporto Forum”, its perfectly legal to write about SA ports. :twocents:

I was most curious about the Colheita match with Brazil. The % of seaches in Brazil was very high, more so than any other top country in these lists. But it wasnt listed in either VP or Tawny.

I just opened a bottle of this tonight. This post made me seek out an Infantado as I'm a big fan of reds with lots of good spices, so I figured why not see what a port with big spices is like. I decanted it for 2 hours before I tried it. The color is deep, deep, dark purple, and lightening only slig...
