Re: Recommendations sought by a Newbie
Hi Lee Thought I'd just chip in with a recommendation for the Tawnies, although you seem focused on VP's for the monemt. You may consider picking up some 20Y or 30Y tawnies or some older Colheitas. You mention that it's fun to drink something that's been around for a long time, and Colheitas is a go...

VP and deposit
I rinsed out the bottle with water (cold I think) but it came out clear. Black bottle I couldn't see through. I have more bottles of this, and if I experience the same I'll revitalise this thread with pictures of cloth, cork, bottle and more

Re: VP and deposit
I ran it through a Screwpull decanter, which has a pretty fine filter http://www.beveragefactory.com/wine/glassware/sp_wa108.shtml. There were a few grains in the filter but nothing worth mentioning. The cork was in perfect condition, only colored red at the very bottom, and didn't look like it had ...

VP and deposit
Just opened a Calem 1985 VP, and to my surprise it had no deposit. At first I just thought it had set in the bottle, but rinsing out the bottle didn't reveal anything. I thought a VP would always have deposit, am I wrong?

Re: 2005 Kopke LBV
Andy, it doesn't say, but it says on the bottle that it can form deposit, not sure if that qualifies as unfiltered.

2005 Kopke LBV Port
LBV's are not really my favorite, but Graham and Quevedo 2003 have made me try new ways. Picked up this 2005 on a vacation for about 12€. Dark red color, which was the best part. The alcohol in this LBV was more dominant than I've ever experienced. The nose was sharp and not pleasant at all. The tas...

Re: 1999 Burmester VP
Update 30 hours: brown hues gone from the color. Dark red a bit lighter at the edges.
Nose and tast much more balanced. Nice sweetness and a medium long finish finish. In my opinion better than yesterday.

1999 Burmester Vintage Port
0 hours: Light red almost at the point of turning brown at the edges. Nose: a bit of alcohol and some fruit. A hint of wood. Sharp taste, light on the fruits. Tawny finish. Not the markings of a young VP. 4,5 hours: color unchanged. Nose: alcohol gone and a bit more fruity "vintage like", ...

Delaforce His Eminence... (something more I can't remember right now)
To my recollection it stands out from other 10Y's I've had.

Re: Travel Shock Question
Someone should set up an experiment. Get two identical bottles, and take one of them on a business trip for a few days, preferbly with both plane and car time. Bring home the bottle and open both of them at the same temperature - serve blind

40 Year Old Tawny Port by Feist
2010.07.02 I bought this bottle recently at a reasonal price in a local store. I considered it a bit of a gamble since it was bottled in 1985 and although I know that bottle aged tawnies have been a subject in this forum, it wasn't sure if it could withstand 25 years in the bottle. The cork had seep...
