Re: Back to back declarations

I received this information from a very reliable source three weeks ago. I was asked to not mention it until the news was made public. I asked more than once if it was solely SQVP or the classics and was told that it was the latter. Excellent for the Symingtons. I hope we learn on April 23rd that T...

Re: Back to back declarations

Did you hear it from a Symington employee? Are you allowed to name the source? [beg.gif] It was communicated to everyone that asked at the Prowein stand, so no secret there. It will be a classic vintage. We should not forget that for the tradiontal porthouses 2016 was the first year since 2011. So ...

Re: Question about aging Colheita

Thanks for the feedback Andy, Moses and Glenn.

Think I’ll open the bottle soon and see if I like the style etc. If so I can follow your advise, Moses, and put down a few extra.

Again thanks you all for the thorough and informative feedback [cheers.gif]

Question about aging Colheita

I recently bought a Krohn Colheita 1982 (bottled in 2017) and was wondering how long it will keep in the bottle. It is my birth year and I would love to share the bottle with my son one day. Will it keep e.g. for 15 years? And if so, how would it most likely have changed compared to drinking it with...

Re: Any news on 2017?

And back on topic, what I've heard over the last year is that every port producer I've spoken to plans to submit samples to the IVDP next spring requesting approval for release as a Vintage Port. In the case of the big producers there was gentle vagueness whether that would be as a single quinta wi...

Re: Any news on 2017?

When you say that a declaration of 2017 would be breaking new ground, is that because it would be third in a row? 2015 was not an 'official' declaration.. It wasn't a general declaration. Anyone who properly registers their Port can make an "official" declaration, regardless of what their...

Re: Any news on 2017?

2013 was probably a declarable year, but I didn't hear the possibility being discussed once. I have the feeling 2017 have amazing potential. A lot of vineyards got hydric stress dammage but what came out alive was extremely good for Port. Small, concentrated and intense berries, can't ask for more ...

Re: Any news on 2017?

The phrase 'very good but very different' (to 2016) is one that crops up with regard to 2017. I've only had a couple of cask samples so far, but they were both very dark and intense wines, with a lot of promise. I can see some producers being fearful of a back to back declaration, simply because it...

Re: Any news on 2017?

I don't have the pulse of the Douro the same way that many others here do, but based on what I heard while I was in Portugal during the harvest this year there are probably going to be a lot of very good Ports declared for 2017. Much of the talk revolved around how those who declared 2016 are in a ...

Any news on 2017?

Hello I was hoping that someone on this board might have some insights on the 2017 vintage [help.gif] I haven’t bought VP since the 2011s were released, but was hoping to buy some good bottles of 2017 for my son (his birthyear) and hopefully share some of them with him in about 25 years time [cheers...

Re: 2011 Vintage Ports -- drinking now?

Bought a 0.375 of Taylor and Fonseca and have had them both now. Had the Taylor pretty much straight out of the bottle and sampled it over three night while I decanted the Fonseca 10-12 hours in a big bowl and drank it that same night. So difficult to compare but I prefered the Fonseca and could eas...

Jeff,

Could you elaborate on what kind of mood you find fits each of the two ports mentioned above?

Re: 1963 VP tasting

Nice notes. A real shame on those which were corked or didn't show well. As those normally among the best of the vintage at this stage of their lives. (FYI, I'll split these out into individual TN's for the TNDB in a couple days so they are easier to search for later). Thanks Andy. I hope one day t...

1963 VP tasting

Tonight 29 members of the Copenhagen based port tasting group, Portvinsklubben af 1981, met to taste six 1963 VPs. The line-up was known beforehand but it was not known in what order the wines would be served. The six bottles were: Fonseca, Taylor's, Graham's, Quintra do Noval, Cockburn's and Delafo...
