Anyone have any tasting notes on the Top 12 Vintage Port tasting? I thought Roy had said it would be in this newsletter? Hoping to hear about it?

Roy when would you suggest this for early drinking v mature? Would you recommend this or the 2005 if you could only buy one?

Thanks guys, I've located a bottle of Ramos Pinto and Crasto so will give those a try. I don't know if I will ever get to the Nacional but can aspire!

Re: 1994 Port recommendations
Sounds like I need to keep trying many. If you could only buy 5 without cost restraints which would you buy? If $50-$60 dollars was your limit what then would be your choice?

This is my wedding year [friends.gif] ! My wife and I love the Quinta do Vesuvio. I have 18 or so bottles of this. I have bought a few of the '94T and '94F to try before I purchase more or not. Which do you like the most and why if your willing? Also which would you recommend for now versus longer t...

Re: TN question
Thats what I was wondering. It looks like it is a very subjective thing, as are many things with wine. ![Toast [cheers.gif]](./images/smilies/cheers.gif)

Re: TN question
Thanks Roy,I have never seen opaqueness described with other wines except port. Is the percentage an approximation or any other techniques people use to arrive at this?

Re: First big Port purchase *updated*
So I popped the cork. It was pretty alcoholic on the nose initially. Decanted 8 hours. The alcohol was much less prominent on the nose, but the nose was muted. The mouthfeel was light but velvety. The fruit was pleasant the length was long. I don't think this was bad but didn't seem to live up the t...

TN question
When you describe how opaque a port is in a TN how do you determine this? Is it through the glass? While you pour it? Or what? Thanks.

Re: First big Port purchase *updated*
Glenn, I think that sounds reasonable. Mike at EWR offered to give me a 15% discount on the seepers. With this in mind your idea seems like a good one. Eric, laughing a lot at your response. I almost retook the pictures when I saw my poor "framing" of the shot but thought everyone on the b...

Re: First big Port purchase *updated*
I opened the capsule and found dried old wine and a completely stained and elevated cork, see new pictures: http://www.mikelwine.shutterfly.com/pictures/20 The question now is would anyone still keep the bottles? For a discount? Or even the normal bottles with the fear that they were exposed to the ...

1985 Fonseca Vintage Port
My first experience with this port. Decanted 4 hours, was planning on drinking in 8 hours so decanted again. The nose had an elegant dark berry note. Strong dark berry on the palate as well. The finish was long with substantial but elegant tannins. I'm not experienced in port but seems to have a lon...

Re: New Segment for the Newsletter
Since you offered to give multiple magnums and may have too much port to consume yourself
and to promote lots of tasting notes, consider selecting a tasting note of the month and award a bottle of port
. This would encourage lots of TN from board members, which we all love.

Re: First big Port purchase
Thanks for the input. The shorter Fonseca bottle is the single one. The taller one, "ex cellar", I have eleven of. Would seepage of this amount concern you? Should I open one and if tastes ok keep. It would be easy if I opened one and cork was ok.
