Re: Old Boal in a basket

I believe this to be one of the wines mentioned in Mannies reprint of Cossarts book that was imported to the USA in 100-case lots. I have tried this wine. Total and absolute garbage.

Re: Your TOP Madeira consumed in 2018

Absolutely, it is the best bottle of OLD Malvasia still available for sale on the island. I believe that to be an accurate statement. It is phenomenal and off the top of my head, typically a 98 point experience, some have rated it even higher. Hi Roy, actually, and I dont know if it is still the ca...

I drank this at the winery a few years ago. Thought it a bit dull and boring. Especially alongside the 1979 Sercial and really the rest of their older blends. How was yours?

If I recall correctly, some bottles of this wine were in a Christies sale sometime over the past 3-4 year.

I confess to having a sweet tooth.

If I had not drunk the the 1950 moscatel, my top madeira would have been 1912 D'Oliveira's verdelho, a reliable great experience.

I always like the 1912 d'Oliverias Verdelho.

BM still has some I think. I'm sure he'd love it if we invite ourselves down to drink one.

Re: Bottles from the Kassab Collection > TNs?

Alan, Most likely a true story, as I believe I read somewhere that Reids wound up with some of the wines due to some unpaid debt of some sort, or maybe I have that in reverse. Regarding the "storage in good conditions" you mention, we all know that storage temperatures of bottled wine do n...

Re: Bottles from the Kassab Collection > TNs?

Interesting topic- I dont think any generalization about the overall quality of Kassab wines can be made. I think most of the wines that have appeared with his stamp have been island bottlings without attribution to a specific producer, perhaps with the exception of JCA. Although I think I own some,...

Re: What Madeira Have You Opened This Week?

Mark, Ive always loved it. Typically prefer my sercials in the summertime, but, squeezed this one in! Its a bit different than what you'd expect of a sercial in the fact that it is a bit sweet, but has all the other hallmarks of the varietal. I would recommend enjoying it with something salty. Iberi...
