Old Invalid from Sandeman

I am not a fan of the modern "Old Invalid" from Sandeman, But came across this old bottle, I just needed in my fridge. The label says: By appointment to his Majesty King George V. Take a closer look at the label, it is quite interesting. So it got me wondering whether "Old Invalids&qu...

Re: How much do you spend per month on Port?

Getting into Portwine is the most expensive hobby, I have ever had! Started collecting in 2013. But have been opening maby 100+ bottles since, so it takes some time building something solid. Right now I have 130 bottles, 50% witch are Niepoorts. And as a total Tawnydude, a wast majority are from 197...

Re: What have you opened this week?

After some weeks with some "for certain nice bottles", this weekend I opend two older ordinary Tawnies. One bottle of Meteor (Taylor), and a speciel Reserve from Churchill's. The latter to be the best. With these older bottles, there is no certainty of pleasure drinkng. And sometimes (1 ou...

Re: Me thinks he doth protest too much

Maby I am not the right guy to ask this question. Quality-wise, I started my portjourney from the very top, by drinking the top Colheitas from Niepoort. And when I some Years ago started opening one bottle of great port for two friends one saturday night, lets say a Ni 1937, we had absolutely no pro...

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

One Garrafeira from Niepoort 1950.
3 bottles down, 7 more to go [dash1.gif]

Will I ever be able to find (and pay) for All 10 Garrafeiras?

And today the 1970 VP from Niepoort arrived. Should be fun to taste along with the Colheita.

Re: rarities...200 years Port bottle

Sorry Nuno, it was not my entend to be rude to You. I Know that the Portuguese winestores have a considerably higher pricetags on there "special wines", than let say Germany. On the other hand GN has some ok prices talking about ordinary Vinho do Porto. And please keep on posting in here! ...

Re: Port Shippers revisited

My three chosen porthouses (Niepoort, Wiese und Krohn, Ramos Pinto) may surprise, but I have to tell, that 14 out of 15 consumed bottles are older than 40 years.... I simply enjoy old Colheitas and Tawnies. Only at my mother in laws, I drink more recent wines...And at tastings. But when I open my fr...

Re: 1960 Quinta do Godim Vintage Port

Absolutely nothing!
I have never heard about Quinta do Godim before. Tried to google...There should be a trainstation along the Douro, with that name?
My guess, is a small Quinta close to the trainstation, where someone 55 years ago resided and made his own VP.

Re: Waterloo Vintage

Thank You Al+A, for the most interesting feedback. I did not think the bottles were "true vintage-ports" bottled in 1817-8. Just a little dissapointing, that the porthouses back then, didnt show the bottlingdate on the label. I will post some pictures for sure! Thanks again for Your insigh...

1960 Quinta do Godim Vintage Port

A "forgotten" Porthouse, handwritten label. Opend 30.th October 2015 in Copenhagen, Denmark Decant: 2 hours The cork came out smooth, slow and in one pieces with the Durand (without using the spikes). Just after opening, I knew by the big fresh Nose, that the port was more than drinkable. ...

Re: COLLECTIBLES: What have you added this year?

Yes! A great topic [cheers.gif]

Just to be somewhat different, and to NOT to go with the flow, I found and bought an ashtray to celebrate Niepoorts 100 year birthday in 1942.

Not that I smoke....But I just had to get it!
Sitting proudly on my counter in my Portgallery!
