Re: What have you opened this week?
A Nice dumpy bottle of Fine Old Niepoort Tawny. And surprisingly the cork showed the year of bottling: 1977. I have had many Fine Olds before, But the first time I see a "birthyear". Does anyone knows when the juice originally was harvested? My guess is 10 to 12 years prior to the age of b...

Re: Speaking of cases...
My dislike for 12-packs kicked into high gear. What size OWC's do you prefer and why? One little story from Real life. My Portmentor had some great bottles, and I thought I knew his stock. When he turned 93 he took sick, and mowed down the Road to some relatives, and his Port went with him. Suddenl...

Re: What have you opened this week?
Saturday. Daugther in the house, and another old Tawny hits the table: Sucessora de Dona Antónia Ferreira - Duque de Brangança. The label was very old and torn, and no selo! My guess is a port from around 1950-60. Very good endeed. Long long aftertaste, burned caramell, and fresh like a spring morni...

Taylor 1863 Single Harvest Port - maybe the most powerful land impressive port I have ever tasted I remember the initial tread from Roy Hersh: "This probably isn't going to be any good, but I'll give it a go anyways" [cheers.gif] Sorry, I couldnt help it. If I had a couple of thousand Eng...

Port through a straw...... My old portmentor who died last year just after his 94th birthsday had many excellent ports through a straw. Off course some ordinary Tawny ports (mostly Niepoort senior). But here some of the better bottles - through a straw  1955 VP Niepoort VV Niepoort 1963 VP Reb...

Tuke Holdsworth 1931 up for auction
Hi guys
A Nice bottle of the 1931 vintage from Tuke Holdsworth is at an auction in Denmark.
The estimated price is $ 400.
Does anyone knows about this Porthouse, and the specific vintage?
I cant find any tasting notes on this Wine.

Have a Nice weekend.....sitting with my Girl and an old Real Comp. Velha 1938 vintage (I would say it is a Colheita) the taste and color, and the lacking of sediments in the bottle tells me so.
But Nice, not extravagant, sweet and very Dark Brown.

Re: What Port has surprised you most?
Sorry guys!
But I have to mention Niepoort again....
I placed a Colheita 1937 on death row, and saw that the cork was floating around in the neck.
I opend it, and expected a Big disappointment. But to my Big and happy surprise, the Wine was absolutely perfect!

Yesterday I Opend the Vilar D'Allen bottle. And old Tawny, with the old IVP selo.
Turned out very pleasent.
I must say that on a summer Night, sligtly chilled, a Vinho do Porto, is great stuff.

Allan, Do you remember what these were? Curious! :scholar: One Tawny from 1955, and a White from 1957. Just one week after I had the "pair of Amandios" I got the opPortunity to get another set [cheers.gif] Both bottled in 1971. And as I mentioned, both where fantastic, but in the end the ...
