New Years eve, I had a Niepoort Colheita 1908. Pretty good [cheers.gif]. But it did'nt beat the Niepoort VV (old bottling) I had this summer. This Year has been Portcrazy, taking part of the historic Niepoort Garrafeira-tasting in DK and enjoying some nicely matured VP's from 1935-1945. What a Year....

Had some Nice friends and family over last friday. Opend two bottles from 1963. One Casa do Douro (special made for the Portuguese people), and One Kopke Colheita. After the tasting, our host presented 2 more 30 Year olds. A Messias bottled in 1975, and a most wonderful Fonseca, believed to have been bottled in the mid 60s. If the before mentioned Fonseca had been part of the tasting, There would have been another winner. Still powerful and fresh. Reminding me...

On friday 10 people opend 8 bottles of 30 Year olds.
Then were tasted blind, and The top 3 of The Night was:
1) Javali
2) Ramos Pinto
3) Krohn

It was my first Javali, and it surprised hugely.

From Portugal came some 15 bottles...Just ordinary Portwine, 40-80 years old. Among 3 bottles of White Port (Garrafeira Particular 1948).

The tasting notes are all 5 of us chipping in, and the 'dentist', came from my sweet girlfriend.
Clove oil, is used in the dentistworld, as an antiseptic.

And she tasted clove in the port...

Mt. Ventoux....the Nose and taste just getting better and better or higher and higher..

The Shepherds's 1937 is now history. The cork was soft, and for the first time, the Durand didnt make it come out in one piece....Had vintage 1937 written on it. Once again Ramos Pinto showes great potential.
And 1880-1930 Jubilee.

Not the longest aftertaste, But sweet, soft and smooth.
