... this "Ponk" (my new name for Pink Port) is the timing of the launch into the UK market... Bizzare. Derek According to this unobstrusive colour, there was in creating this beauty perhaps some support from another industrie with identical first three alphabetic charakters but a differen...

At the risk of beeing regarded pretty funky: the Ferreira 1997 VP reminded me in respect of its elegant style a bit of Noval 1997 VP we had some months ago. Amongst the 1997 VP I tasted so far I would put it at the 2nd position behind Noval and considerably in front of Pocas, Rozès and Sandeman Vau.

10 Year Old Tawny Port by Pocas

Orange to brown colour, the nose is not showing very much, on the palate very sweet, sticky, little fruit, not well structured, sweet and disharmonious aftertaste. Very disappointing in contrast to the stunning Porto Pocas Colheita 1989. My first and last bottle of Porto Pocas 10 years old Tawny.

10 Year Old Tawny Port by Ferreira

Orange to red colour, nose of dried fruits, toffee, little alcohol. On the palate well structured, additional cedar, little lime with a long and fresh aftertaste. I love this Tawny!

1997 Ferreira Vintage Port

Ruby colour, little signs of maturity at the edge. In the nose red fruits, not very open; on the palate red fruits, cedar, later prune plum. This one has more an elegant than a blockbuster style. But there is a lot of backbone. During the first hours alkohol and tannins were standing out. After 24h ...

Many thanks for your helpful words. I would like to pose an additional question according to the evolution of Madeira Colheitas. Roy said, that these Colheitas are ready to drink. Will the wine nevertheless achieve improvement in the bottle over the years/decades? Port Colheitas and Dirk van der Nie...

Vinhos Justino Henriques, Justino's Madeira Colheita

Hello,

what do you think about these Colheitas? What do you think about the aging potential?

I had recently the Colheita 1998 and I liked it a lot. Not too sweet, nicely balanced and a fine fresh finish. I will certainly buy more of this one.

Cheers

Too lazy to translate :) Ce soir encore ce Porto m'a émerveillé.

TNR: Noval LBV 1991

Any thoughts on the 91 Noval LBV Port? To drink with pleasure or over the hill?

Thanks.

Another vote for Niepoort LBV 2001. Magalhaes LVB 1999 is delicious too. My all time favorite so far is Quinta do Noval LBV 1997 (unfiltered).

In comparision to the market of first-class Bordeaux, VP is shurely a niche. But what is the reason for that? Quality is equal. The high level of alcohol perhaps? Or the limited possibilities to combine with food? I do not think, that people are afraid of the alcohol and I would not assume, that fir...
