Re: What happened to Niklas Jörgensen?

I'd suggest he remove some of the links to his old sites from his personal page. The domains were scooped up by spammers and they go to online gambling and phishing sites now. RWC attributes some of their madeira ratings to Niklas, not a great look for either party if someone wants to learn more abo...

What happened to Niklas Jörgensen?

I used to follow Niklas' blog but hadn't checked it in some time. https://www.winelover.co/madeira/ It looks like his websites are down, social profiles removed, etc. Does anyone know what happened to him? Hope everything is ok...

TN: RWC Imperial Malmsey NV

Ok gang, taking a stab at my first TN, go easy on me! [cheers.gif] Really enjoyed this one, if only the bottles were bigger... T-cork style mostly disintegrated, removed balance with a waiters corkscrew without incident. Likely stored on its side? Deeply rich, soy, beef bouillon, salted caramel, fur...

Heavenly Duet?

Was curious if anyone here scored either the H&H Boal or Malvasia yesterday during the Acker auction? Hammer prices compared to retail were fantastic, even with the BP. Not 2008 prices but... https://www.ackerwines.com/three-kings-delaware-auction-2024/ Madeira 1927 x 2 btls Grand Old Bual, Henr...

Converted Church Basement Madeira & Port

Hi All, I stumbled across this store while in Funchal last week and thought I'd share. Apparently it's a converted church, with the first floor being primarily tourist chachkies. However, in the basement is a pretty substantial collection of madeira, port and some liquor accumulated by the former cl...

RWC Imperial Malmsey x 3 Love these! Where did you find them? I have 3 that I got many years ago. Hey Glenn! Yes I about fell out of my chair when I stumbled across them. They were consigned on courtierwines.com, fingers crossed they arrive safely! If I recall correctly you got your bottles for a s...

Re: What Madeira(s) Have You Purchased Recently?

I had a chance to taste this last week at H&H, they called it the 'WOW' wine. It was my very first Bastardo tasting and what an introduction! Absolutely electric and the finish was nearly as potent as the initial taste. H&H 1927 Bastardo . 1 bottle to drink, 1 bottle to keep for a rainy day ...

Re: January Lisbon & Madeira

Excellent... I can't wait! Would it help to try and speak Portuguese to start or are they typically pretty versed in English? On the restaurant front, pretty flexible but looking for native/regional cuisine to Portugal, local specialties, etc. Not looking for the best Thai restaurant for instance! :P

January Lisbon & Madeira

Hi all, I am finally making my way to Portugal after a long love affair with madeira! [yahoo.gif] I would love any restaurant recommendations you have in both Lisbon & Madeira. Also I would love any guidance or etiquette suggestions you have for visiting the big tasting rooms, specifically aroun...

Re: Beginner Questions

I've really enjoyed the 15 year Borges series, around $55 each and they are super solid. I haven't tried the Sercial though. I've gone up to the 20 year, but the QPR wasn't there for me. Can't go wrong with the 15, it's our 'house' madeira now. https://www.bassins.com/ ships and I've found their pri...

Agreed, a photo or even some basic provenance on that bottle would be nice! Just guessing on the Solera based on this Verdelho I found https://wineauctioneer.com/lot/3424/bor ... olera-1915 [shrug.gif]

1915 Borges Boal, Solera?

Morning all! It's been a fortnight+ since I was joining the conversation here... always enjoy the TN's and banter. Only thing I'd add is, the very first bottling was a foil top dipped in wax.

TN: RWC Historic Series The Library Company

Dark mahogany color typical of RWC historic series, closer to the Boal in hue. Major heat on the nose even after a week in the decanter. Drank out of a long stem burgundy glass and also a deeper tulip aperitif glass with no noticeable difference. Heat aside, this blend is one of my favorite historic...

Re: RWC Library Company bottling, clearance

Ok I guess I'll be the guinea pig. Will pick up a few and post TN's later in the main forum. There's a few reviews on Cellartracker, pretty favorable it would seem
