Probably drinking (with Stilton) - 1987 Vargellas or 1985 Warre.

Would love to drink - 1970 Taylor/Fonseca. ;)

Also, very importantly, the cheapest source may not necessarily be the best. Roy will shoot me if I don't mention some additional points here. When buying any Port, especially older Ports like the 1977, there are several factors to consider: A digital photo may help in some of these points below. 1)...

Well done!

I have bought '83 Dows from Bibendum before, though I have yet to drink that particular source (in its original wooden case).

My pleasure! If I were you, I would use http://www.wine-searcher.com to find a list of the various sources in the UK. The price you have quoted to me is too expensive for this Port. Also, I don't smoke so I can't comment on the '77 Dows matching with fine Cubans. However, Roy Hersh's wise words (par...

Nicholas, Good to hear from a fellow Port loving Nick! I am sure you will receive lots of great advice from the real experts on this site! 1977 was a pretty good year for Port. I have probably drunk about 10 bottles of 1977 Dow's over the last 6 years, so I do like it! Here is a recent tasting note ...

Roy, I really enjoyed the October 2006 newsletter. The photos made me drool all over my keyboard, and I wish I had been in Oporto... It gave me pleasure to read the guest article by my talented fellow Port loving friends Alex and Derek. Future submissions should be permitted as and when you feel the...

I am glad that the first time you ever had it from Magnum was with me here in Seattle. I know it was disappointing after having the Magnum of 1970 Fonseca the evening before. Now that was quite the party weekend, eh? That was a legendary weekend. It was unforgetable and I was honoured to have have ...

1970 Taylors Vintage Port

Drank at dinner - 25/9/06 1970 Taylors Vintage Port One of the last bottles of a case lot that I purchased a few years back. Decanted for 1 hour at 5.00pm, then poured carefully back into the original green glass bottle. Although the label did not state it, my guess is that this is an English bottl...

Roy, Thank you! I believe it needs another 15+ years to hit full maturity. I am trying to hold off my remaining bottles, but it is NOT easy! Derek, Now that the cold weather is here in London (bloody summer!), I cracked open a PX last week with my tasting group. It was well received, though others p...

1977 Dow Vintage Port

1977 Dow’s – Rare Silver Jubilee label I decanted this for 90 minutes, then poured this back into the now clean original bottle. We drank it 3 hours later. Deep strawberry red body with a clear rim. Plenty of fine wild herb and spices on the nose. Still youthful at 29 years old, with waves of focus...
