Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

Very VERY late returning to this thread, but Roy, rereading the post from when I first joined, you highly recommended the 2007 Fonseca LBV. I didn't know where to get it at the time, and never did anything about it.... Serendipitously, in October this year my sister and I were wandering Alphabet Cit...

Re: Leaking/seepage - should I be worried?

Thought about that, but it was a store in NJ that a friend drove me to (I don't have a car), so getting back there would be a pain, especially since there's a good chance they'll refuse to take it back (I can't prove it was that way when I got it from them). We just finished our open LBV bottle 30 m...

Leaking/seepage - should I be worried?

Hi all, newbie question -- first time this has happened to me and I'd appreciate thoughts on whether this is okay! I was at a wine store in New Jersey on Thursday and bought a bottle of Taylor First Estate Reserve. Didn't notice any issues at the time; stood it upright in the living room when I got ...

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

1x Quinta do Infantado Reserva (It says demisec - interested to see if I'll like that - we just cracked it open and I don't like it the same way I didn't like the Fonseca LBV upon first opening but then loved it after 2 days, so!) 1x 2001 Niepoort Colheita - first colheita ever! Bottled 2012. Can I ...

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

Yeah Miguel, after I posted that I did some more clicking and stumbled upon your recent experience with the exact same wine, down to the funky initial smell. I don't have a decanter (yet!) but did leave the bottle unstoppered overnight. I just poured myself another glass, and I like it SO MUCH BETTE...

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

Quick update: Over the last two weeks we've gone through the Sandeman Founders' Reserve as well as the Graham's Six Grapes. I liked them both but think that I may have a slight preference for the Taylor First Estate and SFR over the Six Grapes, which I found slightly more muted and less "bright...

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

I don't know if this counts as a "deal" -- probably not a huge one if so -- but I was informed by the everpresent Valpak coupons that Buy-Rite Wines, near the Holland Tunnel, would deliver to my office for free! So I looked on their website, and apart from Six Grapes and Fonseca 2007 LBV a...

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

Wow, :thanks: everyone for the warm welcome! Michael - yes, looking forward to trying Six Grapes! My husband's had it before, but at a restaurant, and I was reading here about how ports tend to degrade quickly at restaurants due to the handling. We'll crack into one as soon as we find it for not-$26...

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

[imnewhere.gif] Hi! I'm really new to port. My husband and I transited through Oporto airport on the way back from our honeymoon last November, and a friendly Sandeman rep at the dutyfree store convinced us that a few bottles of port would be a good way to get rid of our leftover Euros. :D It's a ha...
