Re: What have you opened this week?
I opened a Graham's "Six Grapes" ruby reserve that I purchased back in 2019. It was more delicious and enjoyable than it has a right to be based on its price point. This was definitely more enjoyable on pop 'n pour than the Smith Woodhouse 2004 unfiltered LBV that I opened last week...at l...

Re: Revisiting old posts you made on FTLOP
A. You're blaming me for Madeira prices skyrocketing in the past decade? [shrug.gif] My feelings are so ... like Dr. Evil. Yes, of course I wanted to insure that by writing about them in my newsletter, also published in the World of Fine Wine magazine, that none of us could afford to drink them on ...

Re: Revisiting old posts you made on FTLOP
I definitely blame Roy and Mannie! 8--) No one was really drinking old Madeira prior to these tastings getting publicized. I remember the 1968 D'Oliveiras Boal being sold in the Funchal duty free for 60 euros. Well, Roy is definitely to blame for getting me into Madeira...but since then, fortunatel...

Revisiting old posts you made on FTLOP
Tonight I was doing a FTLOP Forum search for Best Non-Declared Vintages, and for some reason, my search returned a post I created about 10 years ago with the title "Maderized Champagne versus Madeira...and the hype of 2011 vintage Port." Not remembering that I originally created this topic...

de Bartolis are great...in a league with good Madeiras. Bukkaram from Pantellaria is our favourite sweet dessert...not necessarily sweet wine... https://www.marcodebartoli.com/en/wines/bukkuram-padre-della-vigna/ I second Andreas' comment. I've had some old bottles de Bartoli Vecchio Samperi Marsal...

This is exciting news. I've found English Methode Champenoise wine to be fairly good...especially the roses.

Re: Need New Movie + Video Suggestions
I wish! The last racing themed films I watched were Ford vs Ferrari (2019) and Rush (2013) and found both movies entertaining. I read a few reviews for the new Ferrari film which all mentioned a strong theme of Corporate greed (or the greed of Enzo Ferrari) vs the life/safety of individuals. I'm int...

Re: Durand-style Openers
Found this a while back but haven't pulled the trigger, am curious if anyone has bought one or think such opener types are worth it. It's a little bit different than the Durand in that the handles are at an angle, which I think is probably better ergonomically. The price goes down from $85 and then...

Re: 2011 Graham's LBV Port
It just so happens that I have one bottle of Graham's Six Grapes River Quinta in my cellar. I guess I had better crack that one open now so I can compare while the 2011 LBV is still fresh in my mind. So having popped and poured the Graham's River Quintas, this Port seems like it has more in common w...

Graham's LBV: Filtered or Unfiltered?
Tonight, I got down to the end of a 2011 Graham's LBV and noticed very large chunks of sediment in my final two glasses. I was under the impression that Graham's LBV was filtered because the label does not mention "unfiltered" anywhere. Granted, this 2011 LBV that I opened this week aged i...

Re: 2011 Graham's LBV Port
Good point, Glenn. I sort of wished Graham's would make an "Unfiltered" LBV in the good years in addition to making the filtered LBV. It would be nice to compare the two. On night 3, my Fonseca "unfiltered" LBV is finally starting to open up and I think I'm going to end up giving...

Re: 2011 Fonseca LBV Port Unfiltered
As much as I like their VP; Fonseca LBV and Tawny are not that appealing to me. Same for Graham. Moses, I didn't have much experience with Graham or Fonseca LBV's when I purchased these. I think I was over at Roy's house the week after tasting several 2015 VP's and Roy was pouring both of these. I ...

Re: 2011 Fonseca LBV Port Unfiltered
Night 2: I did not decant this bottle, so night on night 2, this was still expectedly tight. However, this now has some coffee grounds aromas on top of rich, youthful black plum and blackberry. My nose is a little stuffy tonight so I'm not going to up my score for now, but I'll revisit the LBV later...

2011 Fonseca LBV Port Unfiltered
I just popped and poured for this note. If I have time I will write an update in a day or two after I have time to decant this or it opens up with bottle exposure to oxygen. There is an aromatic core of tart-ripe red berry fruit like Raspberry, Red Plum, Red Cherry, Red Currant, and a brambly, earth...

2011 Graham's LBV Port
This is a nice aromatic blend of Blackberry, blueberry compote and Black Raspberry and a pleasing smell of wet paint followed by a faint aroma of walnuts and chocolate. The fruit notes are supercharged on the palate with a slightly sweet, milky mouthfeel. Medium plus acid and medium tannins hit on t...
